    A minor setback
Everything was going really well with Klauss, my new scrub python, until last night :(. He did musk and tag me once, a few days after his arrival almost two months ago, but he's been super chill since then. I don't know what his problem was last night . We were getting along just fine. I was showing him off to my SO when out of the blue he musked me again and then bit me for no apparent reason. I don't know if her presence upset him or what. I really thought we had moved beyond this and figured I'd gotten lucky with such a laid back scrub. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed. I kept him out for a few more minutes and he calmed down a bit but I could tell he was still a bit amped up. He even took another shot at me after I opened his enclosure to check on him a few minutes later. Oh well, back to square one.

It actually did hurt a little :). Definitely wouldn't want to take a bite when he's 12'+.

Oh well, at least my BCO loves me. :)

Ouch! Sorry he decided to remind you that he's a wild thing :snake:...I really hope you can get him back to where you were before this setback.
I always wonder what might set off a snake this way...:confusd:

Ouch. When young any change can be scary for them. I wonder if her new smell set him off?

I think sometimes they just don't want to be bothered. And, since they can't tell us, they show us.

oh he gave u a lil red badge of honor! congrats! ;)

i think both the musking and bites/strikes were defensive and not aggression. the musking esp. makes me think he got scared, startled or wanted back in a safe space (enclosure)/left alone. maybe he was thrown off by your SO, maybe it was a sudden movement or approach; maybe Klauss forgot where he was and who he was with. i'm sure he will get better and chill out w/ regularity and routines.

Sorry to hear this Ziggy. My guess is he was overstimulated w/ someone else in the room. Kind of like when I introduced my new BCI to the family pet, wife and kids........BAM....tagged for the 1st time ;)

I was thinking that too...suddenly he felt out-numbered & it scared him.

I got a bite once when I happened to walk in front of a mirror holding a snake that had been doing just fine...apparently the sudden flash of what appeared to be
motion coming from the other side of him made him lash out at me, the one holding him. Just a bit of panic...

Hopefully he grows out of it with age and handling. But it does seem a bit concerning he may bite out of no where. Again hopefully he grows out of it. Also your bco is making me miss a argentine boa I used to own a long time ago. He was pretty mean but I tamed him down with regular handling.
