My ball python (1 year 2 months old) has been making whistle/wheeze sounds for the past week and a half.
I noticed this after he finished shedding. I've never heard whistle/wheezing sounds from him in the past.
This is his 3rd time shedding in my care, I got him end of march this year. BUT, this is the first time where his shed was a mess. It was broken apart- he had problems getting it off. But eventually most of it got off but some small pieces are still on his neck/head. I've check his eyes and nose and they weren't blocked. I thought it might've been the reason for the whistle. As I inspected him, seeing if i could help him get some of the shed off, I realized he was doing the whistl/wheeze sounds.
I read that wheezing can occure during shed, so I let him be for a few days. after those few days, I tried to listen for the wheezing sound as he was in his tank, i couldnt hear anything. (I think). but as I picked him up, it started again. (Is that maybe the case?) I also read it could've been the temperature being too cold. It's been getting colder here for the past few weeks. So I got out my CHE and plopped it over his tank. I didn't use it in the summer cuz it was really hot the past few months.
Few days later it was time for him to eat, I feed him live at the moment (trying to convert him to frozen, any tips are welcome). he had no problems eating.
Come today, it's been 3 days since I fed him, and I picked him up and started to hear the wheezing again. It sounds like little whistles when he breathes out.
His tank humidity is on 60%. The cold side is 25c and the warm side is 32c. I have a heating pad and a CHE on the hot side, regulated by an exo terra thermostat (with pulse proportion)
I saw no signs of RI beisdes some whistle/wheezing. His nose isn't blocked by shed (as far as I can tell). No discharge, weight loss or any of the other RI symptoms that I could find.
Suggestions of what I can do? SHould I bring him to the vet?
Also, he still has some small pieces of stuck shed on him, his head and neck a bit. How can I help get it off? I doubt a water bath will work, it will really stress him out and I doubt his head/neck will be in the water anyways. Should I just leave it? It's causing no harm that I can tell.
Aslo, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this... Oops.
