Looking for opinions on thermostats for UTH....
I’m in the prosess of revamping some of my cages due to this year’s additions. I recently ordered 2 Reptile Basics 2’x3’x12” cages and Ultratherm 11”x11” heat mats for my adult corns. I’m still shopping for the thermostat that would work best with the UTH. I’m currently looking at Vivarium Electronics VE-300X2 to control both cages. I would prefer to use one unit since I plan on a single stack, but I’m also considering separate units for each cage in case I change things up later. Ambient temps in my snake room in summer are 77F for entire room, but in winter drop to 72F for the bottom cages and 74F for the top cages (measured by external digital thermometers on the top and bottom of the stacks). All of my RHP are on Johnson Controls thermostats, individual for each enclosure.
Any opinions on Vivarium Electronics VE-300X2 or other reliable thermostats for UTH? Do you have a preference for another brand? My “musts” are proportional control, not straight on/off, and a safety shut off.
Re: Looking for opinions on thermostats for UTH....
Appears there are several models of Herpstats...any preferences/recommendations on models and sellers?
To clarify, I’m looking at the Herpstat 2..looking for additional opinions.
Re: Looking for opinions on thermostats for UTH....
VE's are fine. They are not as fancy as the Herpstats.
Change the fuses on the VE's every 4-5 years for reliability-other than that-no worries.
When I bought my VE 200's/300's (proportional) they were significantly cheaper than Herpstats. If they are similar price-points I would go with the Herpstats moving forward, but, if VE's are still cheaper-they will get the job done.
Re: Looking for opinions on thermostats for UTH....
Everyone has a brand that works for them so Im not going to tell you one is better than the other, just give you my experience.
Ive ran the same VE-300 thermostats for eight years now, nonstop without hiccups or even as much a blowing a fuse. That's my experience.
Re: Looking for opinions on thermostats for UTH....
Herpstat is having a sale on the redline models through 9/21/18. 15% off regular price. I’m tempted to grab another one in addition to the two I have just because that means a redline 2 is $30 less than usual. Plus they look awesome in addition to being a quality thermostat

Thanks everybody for the input...Herpstat it is (same price point and features as the model I found).
Additional thanks to jmcrook for mention of the redline model sale. :)
