Question about breeding results for pairing.
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what kind of odds I would have when crossing a Mojave x Pastel Orange Ghost Pinstripe Lesser. I know it's a lot of possibilities but I figure maybe someone on here enjoys figuring it out. Thinking about getting back into the hobby and looking at some males that are available to breed with my 2200 gram Mojave female.
Thanks in advance, Nick
Re: Question about breeding results for pairing.
Using the Forked Line method of calculating the result of the cross (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punnett_square), mojave x pastel orange ghost pinstripe lesser is the equivalent of four monohybrid crosses:
lesser x mojave -->
1/4 normal
1/4 mojave
1/4 lesser
1/4 mojave/lesser (blue-eyed leucistic = BEL)
pastel x normal -->
1/2 pastel
1/2 normal
pinstripe x normal -->
1/2 pinstripe
1/2 normal
orange ghost x normal -->
1 het orange ghost (looks normal)
Put it all together (and leaving out the word "normal" where unnecessary), and you get 16 possibilities:
1/16 pastel pinstripe
1/16 pastel
1/16 pinstripe
1/16 het orange ghost (looks normal)
1/16 mojave pastel pinstripe het orange ghost
1/16 mojave pastel het orange ghost
1/16 mojave pinstripe het orange ghost
1/16 mojave het orange ghost
1/16 lesser pastel pinstripe het orange ghost
1/16 lesser pastel het orange ghost
1/16 lesser pinstripe het orange ghost
1/16 lesser het orange ghost
1/16 mojave/lesser pastel pinstripe het orange ghost (BEL)
1/16 mojave/lesser pastel het orange ghost (BEL)
1/16 mojave/lesser pinstripe het orange ghost (BEL)
1/16 mojave/lesser het orange ghost (BEL)
As far as I know, all the mojave/lessers will look alike (BELs).
