Temp question

So i noticed this morning that the temp on the hot side got to 93, but noticed the BP was laying on the probe. Waitied a few minutes than notice snake moved to cool side and temp dropped back down to 90. Has anyone else seen this? Usually the temp stays at 89-91 on hot side. I am wondering if it could have been the snake itsself causing the rise in temp?

Where is your probe?

If it's INSIDE the enclosure it needs to be moved.

The probe is usually behind the hide, but now that you say that this morning it was in the hide. So that was most likely the reason temps were high.

You really want to move your thermostat probe where your snake can't reach it. They can easily dislodge it, poop/pee on it and cause temperature spikes which you've just witnessed.

I'm not sure what heat source you are using, but if it's an UTH you need it to be outside the cage like Craig mentioned, sandwiched between the UTH and bottom of the cage/tub.

Ok thanks. It is only a 10gal tank at the moment with UTH as it is a baby. i will move the probe to underneath the tank below the UTH and see how it reads than. Curious though would that not show a higher reading as it is below the UTH between tank and surface trapping the heat?

Ans just to be clear I am talking about the Thermometer probe not the thermostat probe.

Thermometer is fine in the cage then. Only thermostat probes for UTH need to be outside.

Just keep in mind you will want to measure your hot spot UNDER the substrate, ideally with a temp gun. Wired probed thermometers can work too but I find they are not as accurate for surface temps.

Yes i apologize!! That why i asked could the snake on top of the probe cause the temp spike. since it was only 2 degrees.
