Crisis averted

Got a nice scare tonight. Went to change the water for one the BP and didn’t get greeted like normal. After a quick search he was no where to be found. I have 4 clips on the lid and no way did I think he could get out. After searching for about 45 minutes and the panic dial was turned nearly to maximum, I saw his tail beside a book in the book shelf in the closet. After giving him a good check and a stern talking to(like talking to my kids by the way) I put him back in his home. I set and watched for about 10 minutes and he showed his escape route. Turns out the hole in the lid where my temp and humidity sensors go into the tank was just big enough for him to get out. I patched his hole and now for the last hour he has been probing the lid trying to find another escape tunnel. Never did I think that hole would be big enough for him to fit out of. I’m just so glad I found him unharmed. I got lucky this time!!

I have a 4 m.o. ball python and i had the top to his tub off to let out some humidity, he was chilling on top of a hide for 10 minutes straight, not moving. I looked away for 30 seconds and he was out of the viv and on his way to adventure! I picked him up and tutted at him before putting him back. It's crazy how fast and how clever they can be when they put their mind to going somewhere new!

Well you AND your snake got lucky this time, whew! Snakes can get seriously injured when they force themselves into holes that are too small for them to escape.

Nice to hear it had a positive ending. My clown tried a disappearing act on me once, but my daughter caught him making his get away! Can’t ever take your eyes off them.

They are definitely smarter than you think. After putting him back home, he probed his lid all night looking for another escape route. A lot smarter than I gave him credit for.

That was my main concern was how bad he was hurt from his escape. Luckily he is fine, didn’t even have a scratch. I learned a lot from him yesterday!

When I was bringing my older girl home from the store I turned to check on her and she was halfway out of the box and headed for the backseat. Nothing like wrestling a python with one hand while trying to drive with the other...I leaned my lesson. I lock them up like Fort Knox when I'll traveling now.

Glad to hear it had a good ending! My adult male went for an adventure one night when I must have not clipped the front latch shut well enough (front opening exo Terra). I found it open in the morning, sans snake, and texted the fiance before I left for work to be aware of the situation when he woke up. He was missing a couple days before we found him - inside the insulation on the stove walls! I wish he was as easy to find as on a bookcase!! Do you know how hard a stove is to dismantle while keeping it in tact for the landlord? [emoji23]

You bet I quadruple check all my locks and latches now. We joke now when he's poking around his enclosure that he's 'pining for the stove' like that one Monty Python sketch with the bird.

I had a big Cali king escape on me one time.I was at the beginning of a divorce and moving from one apartment to another.
She escaped a week before I had to move.I hated the landlord so
I didn't tell her about the 5' king snake wandering around on the 3rd floor.
Long story short, she turned up in a local pet shop 7 months and 3 weeks later.
When the owner heard my story she said "yup, that's your snake"
She gave her back to me and waved the $249.00 price tag.:P

Maybe just me having a bit of a stick up my butt, but like your landlord or not, that seems really irresponsible to not share that your snake escaped. Especially for the snake. You're lucky your snake wasn't beheaded by some freaked out neighbor...
