    Rat Racks in Retic/Burm room.
I know this is been covered under the ball pythons however they don’t have the feed response some of these large Constructors have...who has the rats in there snake room and has it caused any problems with Burms/Retics etc..

I have my rat rack within 12 inches of my snake rack, which includes a burm and 2 retics under 5 ft, and within about 10 feet of my 8 ft burmese python. In a bedroom with a fan circulating the air, so the rat smell is always in the air. I never have a problem with this. I, of course, always take precautions when I open their tubs, but i've never had them act "weird" because of the rats in the room. When I thaw out my frozen rats to feed, I let them thaw in a bucket in front of the rack. That is the only time they come (literally) flying out of the tub and I have to open it with a snake hook to avoid the open mouths coming at me. They don't seem to care about the live rats. Most of the time when I am cleaning I handle the snake at the same time. My 5 ft retic is harder than a baby BP to handle in one hand, so she normally finds her way on top of the rats mesh. I still don't have a problem with her (of course if there was no mesh i'm sure the rats would have a problem) even when I pull her back off the rat cages. She isn't defensive\aggresive anything.

Yes Im serious lol.. ive kept the Rats in with my Balls for years, but had my Burm Hit the Glass of the enclosure when my dog got into his room (own room) so I wanted to see what others do, as I expected Ive received several PM’s from others who have them all in their finished Basements.. My Room is 22’ x 12’ so they don’t have to be ontop of each other.. i also was thinking that maybe I haven’t had a problem because they were like this since Hatchlings and use to it? Idk. Of course I’m questioning the fact a Ball has no wheres near the feed response. Any others that care to chime about Large Constrictors please do so [emoji1360]

I suppose they might get used to it as "normal"...and for your sake, I hope so. Do post every now & then so we know it's working out? ;)

I admit I've never kept large constrictors other than a large female BCI...but I shudder to think of keeping rodents in the same room w/her.

I wouldnt be able to trust handling my burm if rodents were near by. I have him on the first floor but even when Im thawing rats for the BPs on the second floor he starts getting excited. Maybe the people that have had their larger snakes in a room with rodents since they were little are more used to the smell so I don't know how that would work out for an already adult snake being switched to that constant smell being near by.
