Do you line your enclosures?

So with PVC enclosures do you need enclosure liners? Or what do you line yours with? I have a AP enclosure coming and I'm wondering if I have to line it with something. Or do you just put the substrate down straight into the PVC.

Mainly wondering this bc as I was cleaning up my babes cage today bc he peed and it smelled something awful. I removed the substrate and I put paper towel or sometimes newspaper under the substrate and it smelled awful. I clean full clean one a month. And I sit down every single time he pees or poops bc he is in my bedroom and I don't like bad smells lol

100% troll identifed... But if you're not actually a troll, then I suggest not putting paper under the substrate because it would stink to high heaven.

I don't use a liner in any of my enclosures I just use about 2 inches of substrate. Some keepers use paper liners but I'm not a fan. I like a more natural look and the substrate is easy to clean.

Thanks man. The only reason I asked about this is because I saw someone post the other day about enclosure liners for sell and I'm like is that a thing I need to be doing? That I didn't know about. Still trying to get a good understanding of how to best take care of my little guy. Thanks.

Also I meant I spot clean every time he poops or pees.

Idk why the other guy called me a troll. Either my typos from using my phone. Or the fact that they think it's a stupid question. I rather ask the questions and learn the proper way to do things instead of just guess. That's the entire point if this fourm. To learn. And when people start making it not a safe place to ask questions. It makes other people afraid to reach out. And then you have ppl not taking proper care of their animals bc of ignorance. It's not a good vibe

When I was using bark/shavings, I just used that, no liners. If you use both, the liner will absorb any liquids that make it to the bottom, making the whole setup smell awful. For over 15 years, I’ve used old cotton or linen sheets, tablecloths, or other flat fabric with hemmed edges. Easy to spot when the snake has gone, shake solids into trash and drop in the washer (hot water). You don’t get the naturalistic look, but it makes it easy to completely clean the cage every time. Even with 12 snakes, I can clean all the cages, wash water bowls, and handle each snake for at least a few minutes in 2-3 hours.

I like the natural look.
I clean usually within an hour or so after he goes. At least the same day so nothing is ever left to set too long. But I've seen a few pictures of people lining their ap cages and then someone posted they were selling them on here so naturally I began to wonder if that's something I'm supposed to be doing. Sometimes (I don't do it all the time) I like putting paper towel or newspaper underneath the natural substrate layers bc when I do my entire cage cleaning. It's easier to get all the substrate out. Like lining a kitty litter box. That was the idea I had. But I might stop. Paper towel is expensive. No body has time for that.

I've never used liners either. My understanding is they are intended to prevent staining on the enclosure floor.

As for the troll thing, not sure where that came from. That's not common on this forum and I hope 1 user comment doesn't discourage you.

Keep asking all the questions you want to ask.

I seen someone do the opposite but that was to minimize the use of reptile prime, and maximize it's life span like stated above the paper soaked up most the waste and the he spot clean if any got thro to the substrate it kept his humidity right but since you are going for the natural look probably not for you, congratulations on your new enclosure I am sure you and your lovely noodle well be pleased best wishes always..:gj:
