Is this normal?

Juuust want to make sure this is okay. I fed Ralph (my BP) tonight. He missed a feeding last week while in shed.

Tonight he watched me eagerly from his tank while I prepared his rat, and I barely lowered it into his enclosure before he nailed it swiftly. I'm happy he's eating well, but he seemed sooo eager and hungry, and he usually stalks it for a little while smelling it and inching closer.

Is this normal? No cause of concern, right? It's actually quite comical and adorable watching him so obsessed and desperate. I know other people's snakes do this, but I didn't know if ball pythons (notorious trouble feeders) could be this eager?

Not a problem at all. The feeding response can sometimes be swift and brutal. Nothing to worry about.
He is a normal growing boy.

Royals can vary in feeding that's why I always suggest buying a GOOD feeder and from a trustworthy breeder rather than some random pet store .

I have two Royals that feed like King snakes yet the other two are nervous , shy feeders who only strike from within their hides ..

Yeah, I can understand tho, they are cooling one day .. then they don’t want to eat, then they wana act like you starve them lol…
On that note, my Spell just hit the rat so quick she almost fell out the rack! dead ass: strike, squeeze, eat.. all while hanging outside the cage.. for a moment I thought I had BEL GTP lmfao!!. but yes in 2 years she has never been so eager to eat, I do think it is also due to her probably wanting to pack on weight now that she is coming of age, but she still has plenty of time for all that .. but it was still pretty awesome to see. if I can I will post it .. my mom couldn’t believe they could do sooooo much with no arms or legs !!!

I’m like now you know why I love them :P

Ive had my hatchling Super Pastel fling herself halfway across a tub in order to strike at a feeder, I see nothing wrong with your snakes reaction.

Not only isn't there anything "wrong", it's totally commendable behavior! :taz: GOOD snake! :D

Sounds like a good thing to me. That is what I look forward to in each feeding. My bp acts that way too, sometimes prematurely striking the tub before I could open the tub lid. Rarely, and usually after I disturbed him or in shed, would he not do that and takes his time to ponder if he would eat or not. Bp's can be such divas.

i wouldn't say it's normal per se but IMO it's preferable. i love a snake that loves to eat and demonstrates that eagerness. :)
