Feeding

I have never seen this happen before I was feeding my ballpython a small frozen rat, and she went up to it and gently put her mouth on it and did not constrict it. She just knawd on it for a minute then let it go and went back in the hide. This would be the I’ve only fed her the rats 2 times before this incendent, and this certain rat is one of the bigger ones of the four I purchased. Should I just try again later or is she not hungry can someone give me an explanation. Also I have never had trouble feeding her before.

Are you absolutely sure it was warm enough? Its sounds to me as if she got the scent, but maybe when she got her mouth on it, it was still cold inside?
You need to feel them or check w/ temp gun, & most here seem to have the best luck by warming w/ a quick shot from blow-dryer right before offering.
The larger the rat, the longer they take to thaw inside...and it's also possible she decided this was too big, though most snakes that are truly hungry don't
refuse on that basis.
