    Larger light guards?
Ok, it has become painfully obvious that I should never, EVER attempt to modify any cage in any way. I am not made for this crap. Anyway, my most recent failure is that I bought a mesh light guard for the inside of this 4 ft melamine cage I'm trying to prepare. Turns out, it doesn't fit flush over the light socket. Searched all over the internet for a larger size and I can't seem to find one. I've tried using longer screws to jury rig in anyway. To no avail.

I need to get this stupid cage done before I go on vacation and I'm on the verge of setting it on fire. Does anyone know where I can buy a light guard that is larger than 5.12 inches in diameter? Or have another idea on how to keep my snake from cooking herself on a bulb inside her cage? I'm all ears.

A guy in this FB group I'm in modified some light guards for use with halogens and ceramics. I'm on mobile so can't link or find it rn, but if you're interested in some DIY I can probably find that for you later.

I have one, but it doesn’t fit with the light setup that’s already in there 😖

Can you post a pic? I can be pretty crafty with stuff like that at times, but I'm the type of person who needs to see it to be able to figure it out.

Maybe others will have ideas too if they see it?

Well, I can't find the post where he talks about making them, but I know what he did and the products he used. I don't know if they're wide enough for your purposes, though. He bought this light cage:

He cut the dome part towards the bottom off, then wrapped the entire thing in hardware cloth using zip-ties and silicone on the sharp edges, which gave him an end result of this:

I'm also curious as to what you're using that's 5 inches wide? I measured my CHE's and they're only 3.5 inches in diameter.

i think that's the diameter of the base of the light fixture: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...=1#post2628642

i googled "reptile light guard" and one of the hits was ebay. there's a bunch on there and a quick scroll, i found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Reptile-Amp...YAAOSwR9pbIN2o per the pictures, it's supposed 15cm which is like 5.9inches (but the descriptions below says 5.12cm :/ ) also they do look like minnow traps lol.

i also like the idea a fashioning hardware as Star mentioned. here are some light guard options from Home Depot. u use a screw to tighten them around the neck of the light fixture instead of the base.:

me - i would just go to LLLreptiles, get this overly large guard and call it a day: http://www.lllreptile.com/products/3...ght-cage-cover it's a 6.25inch cube all the away around. they have storefronts in SoCal.

That makes a lot more sense that I was imagining, thanks for the clarification! lmao.

Those last few things Ax mentioned seem like your best bet in this situation. Teamwork! :handshake
