I don't know wouldn't know how to rate of any of the recommendations on this page to get rid of them. You'll have to ask others how to do that best.

Do you want to know what they look like to the naked eye? Specks. Otherwise the link Dawn posted is good for a more closeup view. ;)

yea, I was more interested in how they look from the naked eye. are they black spots? white spots?

im not sure because my snakes have never had mites but on some other thread i think it was said that they could be black, white, or red. and i think you could usually see them around the eyes or in their water bowls. i dont know though

My first ball python had mites,and what i saw were little black specs crawling on her,and they were mostly around her eyes.

They can be black, white or red. The protonymphs are white from everything i've read. If you see what looks like a bunch of tiny pepper grains in a waterbowl, it's probably mites.
A big clue is if your ball is soaking a lot, has not eaten a big meal, your temps are fine, and you've got plenty of suitable sercure hiding places.
Provent-A-Mite is still the best produce I've seen for getting rid of them.
