    Urgent heat question
Hey ya'll, summer is hitting hard here in NY and I can't keep the cool side of my tank below the mid-eighties/low nineties. I thought the heat wave would pass after a few days but it's not and I need advice on keeping it down. There's really no spot in an AC'd room that would be suitable, and I'd imagine a fan would only blow around the hot air? I tried putting ice along the side but it didn't do anything significant and ended up melting all over. I don't want her to cook...help! Thanks in advance.

Find the coolest room in your house and keep it there. 84 to 86 is a good ambient temp. If you can maintain that there should be no hot spot. Once you hit 90 ambient you are in the death zone.

A damp towel over the enclosure with a fan blowing on it will drop the temp a couple of degrees. Obviously keep the wet away from electric devices.

Unplug the uth no need for it if your ambient are in the mid 80's low 90's

If possible put the tank on the floor, place a big ceramic bowl in the enclosure filled up with cold water (snakes will cool themselves wrapping themselves around them)

Check the body core temp of your snake using a temp gun rather than going by the room temp there will usually be a difference of 2 to 3 degrees between both.

My snake room is kept at 86/88 in the summer with no issue

The last few weeks have been hot in MA too. I have no heating equipment running and I'm maintaining ambient temps between 86-88.
I keep a few water/Gatorade bottles filled with water in my freezer. If it gets too hot I just drop them in the tank at the "cool end". Rotate as needed.

You can also put the frozen water bottles or cold packs in front of a fan for "redneck A/C".

A few weeks ago my husband and I installed UV-blocking film on our south-facing windows to help keep the house cooler, and I could tell the difference almost immediately in those rooms. I expect that to pay for itself quickly in lower electric bills. This is the product we purchased: https://www.amazon.com/EXTERIOR-Wind...dp/B00VH01FGA/

Good point, I just taught my girlfriend this "trick" for when she's getting ready in the morning. We don't run A/C in the bathroom.

Thank you so much everyone! I've been using a combination of these suggestions and although it's spiked again recently she is still eating and shedding fine so I assume she not too bothered. However, I know I've had MY fill of summer..bring on the crisp weather and autumn colors [emoji28]

Glad you got it under control. You can keep your cold weather though. I am one of the few people I know that has to keep their incubator cool instead of hot and I like it that way. LOL
