Need a thermostat. Any smart or wifi thermostat experience out there?
I'm in the market for a thermostat. I almost pulled the trigger on Vivarium Electronics VE-300X2, but decided I would look for something more technically connected. I found this for example, http://smartpid.com/

I'd like the ability to monitor and control from smart phone or computer.

Anyone have suggestions for a connected thermostat?

Just buy a Herpstat. Once you set your temps, I don't think you'll need to control the temps from your phone. The Herpstat will do a pretty good job keeping the temps where they need to be.

I'm new to this... Herpstat over VE?
In either case, I'd like dual zone and proportional heating option.

I started out buying VE for their price, but ended up switching to Herpstat. I didn't save the money I thought I was saving.

I have 3- HP2 and 3 HP3 between racks and incubators. Once set I have not had an issue. Im sure there are some ways to find Tstats that are remotely accessed but I have never run across any that would support heating reptiles.

I love my Herpstats! I have two Herpstat 4s that I bought secondhand and they have never failed me!

If you're a bit technical, wiring up a hygrometer and thermometer to an Ardunio or RaspberryPI and having it send you an email, SMS or whatever is relatively easy and on my to-do list in case of thermostat failures, power outages (put your modem/wifi router on a UPS and your Thermostat) or anything else.

Once I do it, I will post up the sketch or steps to make one. I've messed with one since I made my garage door opener wifi enabled, but totally doable.

As I'm located in Europe hard to get here Herpstat, so I bid on ebay an used Microclomate EVO thermostat from United Kingdom. Ofcourse had also to get an UK to EU plug converter. Must admit it is awesome, and just bought the second one. I`m controlling with it 10 racks at once. Very easy to use. just read what it is capable to do. :)
