First escape!
Thankfully there's a happy ending! I wasn't feeling well this morning and decided to take a sick day. Good thing I did because I walked into our room mid-morning and Buffy, our 120-something gram itty bitty Dragon Fly, was hanging out on the shelf below hers, most definitely not in her cage!
So this little snake somehow got enough leverage to reach and push her lid and descend from the top shelf to the middle. Gave me a jolt when I saw her because I was worried a cat had gotten to her, but she still looks perfect and is now safely in her tank with a weighted lid!
Amazing what they can get up to!

i remember when i first had my corn snake home; he was a 60g worm and was given to me in a 20gal with no locking lid. i thought he's 60g, he's not going to push that lid up. well a week or so goes by and i've been watching how he manages to crawl along the lip of the top of the enclosure by some sort of witchcraft. one night i'm just casually watching him defy gravity and then, all of the sudden, his head is somehow poking outside of the lid. he somehow managed to wedge his stupid face underneath the lid and push it up to make his way out. i allowed him a minute or so of freedom, and safely tucked him back in and secured the lid. he now resides in an enclosure with a secure locking lid. :)
don't ever underestimate a snake that wants to get out!

Re: First escape!
Lol I had a 1 year old KSB do the same. "You don't need clips" they said, "he'll never leave the ground" they said, "he's not strong enough to push up the lid". LMAO. My KSB climbs more than any of my other 3 snakes. Little weirdo. He gets double clips

Famous last words- "you don't need clips" or "he can't possibly push that lid off".
For many years I attached light-weight chains w/ eye-bolts + clips (like on dog leashes) on other end from my home-made wood/screen lids to whatever cabinet my
tanks sat on. I keep primarily colubrids but back then I also kept a number of rattlesnakes (for 20 years) so I took NO chances...cages were secure. I still do that
on some of my cages, but ever since I moved cross-country & had to replace the tanks (too expensive to ship!), I had to make new lids to fit the slightly different size
tanks, so I've gotten somewhat lazy & now some of my cages have lids that are only weighed-down. But when you do it that way, you REALLY have to OVER-do it,
to always be sure. If your little noodles can manage to escape, just think what a motivated 7' constrictor can do? No escapes but I really should put the chains
back on one of these days...thanks for reminding me.
