Breeding in the off season.

Hey everyone, been a while. :) so I just moved into a new apartment and my neighbor has a femal cinnamon. I have always wanted to breed but I only have males at this time. So I now have an opportunity to complete a dream. :) so I am just asking if anyone has had luck breeding in the off season? What do you all think of lowering temps to trick the females into making follicles? Any suggestions or good threads are much appreciated. Thank you!

What is classed as the off season, is it the time of year when everyone else has stopped breeding, or is it the time of year when one would expect to gain the least percentage of success. I say that there is no off season, rather there is an all year round season with Ball Pythons.

I had a female wrapping the water bowl in January, I had one wrap in April, and I have one that has started wrapping in the last two weeks.
To date I have only put my first males in with females intentionally last night.

I had a pair unintentionally lock in December and so I put them together intentionally for 4 times through December/January/Febuary, to date the Female is not showing any signs of being gravid.

I have friends who have bred Ball Pythons for years, and they get babies in September, in November, in January.

My personal opinion, Ball Pythons can be paired at any time during the year, if conditions are right, they will lock, and when conditions are right or the Female is ready, she will go through the process and lay eggs etc.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Females always have 2 strings of follicles, they develop them at different times. When introduced with a male they will continue developing the string and hopefully until ovulation.

All females dictate when they want to lay, technically the "season" in ball python is just when the most ball pythons lay their eggs, but they will go off season themselves sometimes.

I breed year round without cooling, though I would forget trying to pair after a move, I would just wait a few months and let them get used to their new environment.

Even a simple 10 miles move can completely run a breeding season..

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Deborah, when you breed in the “off” season how do you know when the perfect time is to start bringing in males? Is it after you can actually feel the follicles?
