Boas temper and temperature???

Nothing crazy. Made a wooden 4 by 2 by 2 enclosure for my boa and she liked it alot but I had to go up to a 100 watt bulb and shes been fine but the last week she's hissing whenever I go near or walk by the door. Only coinciding factor is the temperature outside is getting hot outside which made her hot spot go from 96 98 degrees to 102 to 106 which effects the heat in the rest of the enclosure. Need to get a lower bulb in there ASAP for her but just wanted to see if others ever had their boa or snake tell them they are in a bad mood because of their husbandry lol

The light dome I use with my CHE has a built in dimmer. I monitor and mark the dimmer to retain my settings. Im also having good luck with the $17 thermostats i found on Amazon. I was wary of them at first but after reading the reviews and using them, they seem to be quite reliable.
I have no experience with Boa's so im unsure of appropriate temps but if yours are too high it could definitely contribute to a pissy attitude.

Heck yeah your Boa is in a bad mood, 96-98 hot is Way too hot!

102-106 will kill it or cause CNS damage at least. I hope you shut that sucker off, if not do it now.

No need to have it above 90.

If you can’t manage to get a thermoSTAT, at least get a dimmer switch from the hardware store.

I don’t mean to come across as arrogant or a jerk, but I hope you only plan on using that as a temporary measure until you can get a VE or Herpstst.

Sure people will tell you how great these el cheapo models are until they fail in the wide open mode and burn their animal. In fact there was just a thread about a few weeks (?) ago. Fortunately, the member caught the failure before the snake was harmed. He got off easy.

I definitely have intentions of getting herpstats and in no way do i negate the value of investing in a quality t-stat, simply offer the info as a better than nothing solution. I also run the dimmers with the thermostats and i run che's at lowest possible wattage to achieve required temps. I have dreams/plans of a fully automated glorious display room running all redline series herpstats. Soon.

Holy cow! 100F for a boa!!? Even my beardie barely cracks those temps on her basking spot under her heat lamp. Only thing i would keep around that temp would be like a monitor as they like it around 120F for basking.

For boas, you want nothing over 90F. I keep all my boas and actually most of my snakes with a hot spot of 88F with flexwatt and the rest of the cage including the ambient air is anywhere from 77-80F depending on the room temp. My little GTP gets a hot spot of 85F.

That is probably why your boa is so cranky, it's way too hot for it.

And like Reinz said, get a good quality T-stat. I personally run two Herpstat 6 and one Herpstat 1 redline.

Turn the light off and leave it off. As another member here found out when the air conditioner failed, temperatures in the upper 90's are hot enough to kill a boa.

I’m just leaving this here because I’m the one that caught it intime for the sole fact that she was on the opposite side....(ball python) yes one of our members lost their RTB because of AC failure and reached 98-99 degrees. Sad and it scares the living hell outta me. Because I have 5 different species in one room that depend on an abbient temp of 80ish nothing higher the 83...and god forbid it goes higher living in Central Florida.

Holy cow! 156F!! I almost never have any of my snakes' belly heat on in the middle of summer. But then again, my house usually sits around 90F in the summer lol. I just throw a couple bottles of frozen water in the snakes' cages and refresh with new bottles as needed.
