    Vibrating boa?
Hi, yesterday when I went to pick up my boa, I ran my hands down him to kind of let him know I was there and when I did that, it felt like he was vibrating. I saw on another forum the idea of static from a heat mat, but I couldn't find any other information on it. Is this something I should be worried about?

It is as you say some kind of 'phenomenon' .... I've got one viv with a 10" x 10" heat mat and if the snake is lying over the mat and you stroke him you can feel a definite vibration .

Maybe some electrical bod can explain better .

As far as I recall it's nothing to worry about .

There should not be inductance transferring to your boa from the heat mat. If there is it could be very bad for them and even you.

The video above should help you understand.

I'm not certain there's actually a transference of electricity ..

I used to feel a vibration 'through' the snake though ...

Maybe we when touch them it completes some kind of circuit ??

The title had me thinking a whole different thing. The older I get the faster my mind goes straight to the gutter.

Never had any of my snakes vibrate. They will raise up, coil and sway back and forth when they think dinner is coming though lol. I would personally ditch that heat pad and go to something different like heat tape or RHP.

I have felt this with several of mine on many occasions. I think it happens when they breathe. Freaked me out the first time but now it's just one of the things they do.

It always made me think there was a bad earth connection somewhere - then again I did electronics at college and am a bit twitchy.
