Large hides?

Does anyone recommend any specific large hides? I was thinking about trying to make my own because I have one of the large plastic box looking ones but my chunky girl barely fits through the opening and I would like one that’s nicer to look at and holds heat better than the plastic one.

Would you be able to tell us the type of snake she is, and length? Or pictures too, they would help a lot on making a recommendation!

When I had my large BCI (7.5'), I made a hide for her that she really loved. Her previous hide was plastic with one doorway...taller than she liked,
& also somewhat slippery for her to climb on top of. I fixed all of that with the one I easily made for her, it was cheap & trust me, I'm no carpenter!
Sorry I have no photos but let me describe what I did-

I bought 'finished' (smooth) pine that was about 5" wide x 1/2" thick. 4 pieces: 2- 30" long and 2- 17" (-the end pieces) Into one end piece, I cut
2 rounded doorways with about 6" between them. I coated all the wood pieces with waterproofing (no VOC) & let them dry, then nailed them together
in a rectangle. For the top I used a piece of tile board, nailed on. On top of that, I put a clean, unused (washable) nylon carpet mat with non-slip
backing. (Make sure the doorways you cut are big enough for the snake AFTER a meal to easily go through.)

When my BCI discovered how easy it was to enter one doorway, & go out the other, she kept doing it, as if for fun? It was SO much easier than for
her to have to go all the way in just to turn around. And because the hide was so long (or "deep"?), the 2 doorways had little impact on her feeling
of privacy, as evidenced by her use of the hide. She also seemed to love using the "2nd story" for basking. The mat stayed put & gave her traction,
something all snakes need & feel more secure with. She never did soil the mat, but they are washable anyway, if she had. They don't cost much, &
most hardware or home improvement store sells them.

So go ahead and make your snake a big 'ol hide box, & you'll see just how happy it makes them by the way they use all of it. :snake:

And btw, the wood holds heat in very nicely too...the UTH was under the hide I described so it made it very comfy.
