In a way....

Just a thought, but in a way I'm glad some people don't like Kenyan Sand Boas because they're not good display snakes. The reason being is maybe that helps weed out some people who maybe wouldn't take care of them properly. Not sure if that helps but it can't hurt either.

On a side note, Vikings season 5 sucked...

Bps aren't good display animals either, yet herds of idiots want them and then keep them poorly.... perhaps it's because they get bigger and because there are more colors.

My wish is that NO snakes are thought of as "display" animals. Each has a unique beauty, a personality and a place in nature...I consider myself lucky to know each one,
but it's even better when I can help others understand & appreciate them.

I think the internet both helps & hurts: too much focus (IMO) on the brightest fanciest colors/morphs & selective breeding (aka "eye candy"), forgetting that what nature
created over time that succeeds (!) is the real masterpiece.

Interesting way to look at it OP and really, I think it's a good point.

Some snakes really are 'display' animals though in my opinion, as they may be 'fragile' as babies and throughout life very prone to biting and may get stressed from over-handling.
One of my 'display' snakes, in her natural occurring beautiful coloration, nature does make a wonderful masterpiece.

That isn't quite what I meant. I agree that some snakes are not suitable to handle, but that's just having proper respect for their unique nature.

What I think of when someone says a "display snake" is the ophidian equivalent of a "trophy wife"...just something to show off.

When I think "display" snake, i think of something that doesn't mind being out in the open and/or enjoys roaming about, taking full advantage of their space and environment. I would consider a GTP or ATB a display animal in the trophy-wife sense, because they sit there in the open and are pretty to look at. But I would also consider many colubrids display animals because they are generally more active and use up their space - therefore fun to watch.

Regardless, it boggles my mind why anyone would want an exotic animal, for display or otherwise, paying in some case exorbitant prices for something rare, and not kill themselves researching said creature in advance to provide the perfect-est environment.

In a way...I think my KSB may be the cutest out of all of my snakes. And also has by far the simplest husbandry requirements. Granted, its maddening when he won't eat for months, but he has so much personality and is such a little weirdo

EDIT:He was also my first snake, and the one that opened my eyes to the fact that there is so much more to snake husbandry than what they tell you at the pet shop...

I think that's why I'm mostly a colubrid keeper- I enjoy seeing them use the branches in their cages, and also have installed baskets for many of them too-
I've found that many of them like to snooze up there...? It's cute anyway, one more choice besides a warm & cool hide box. I "think" I'm watching them...
but many of them are watching me too, lol.
