Shedding

My new BP is going into shed ( her eyes are almost blue ), and I am wondering if I should raise her humidity level a bit while she is in the shedding process? If yes, how much more would be best?

Also, Is it fine to pick her up while she is in shed? I'm still letting her be alone because she's new, but I have to pick her up to check her hot spot temp, is this okay?

always bump humidity at the first signs of shed.

keep humidity around 70% until the snake sheds out.

keep handling to a minimum (husbandry checks are okay).

I had issues with my aspen bedding not holding humidity enough so I switched to reptiles chip , but I had we it to much getting it out of the block stage so I had to switch back to aspen. I have another batch coming and when one goes back into shed I’m switching back over .

You don’t want the substrate to be saturated you just want to wet it enough to raise the humidity to about 70% . Best bet is spraying 2-3 times a day to maintain that rather than soaking the cage. It can cause scale rot from what I’ve read .

What tttaylorrr said is spot on.

Always remember that a proper shed starts with proper husbandry. The shed process starts as soon the old skin is shed.

Agree with others, keep handling to a minimum when a snake is in shed. Bear in mind that many snakes seem a bit "cranky" then too, instinctively laying low because they cannot see well & feeling more vulnerable. They don't always read your good intentions well...don't be surprised if you get nipped, it's just normal self-defense on their part.

wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago! For the first week my male was a puppy dog but when he went into shed he struck at me every time I opened his tub! After shed he’s back to puppy dog!
