soaking ball mystery solved!!!

great news wheelie shed this morning. i guess that is why he was soaking so much. i had no idea that he would shed so soon after arriveng at my house. i thought he would have to adjust to the new place to start having normal activities like shedding. he is sleeping so i am unable to see if he had a complete shed, but i have kept the humidity 50-65% the whole time. it probably went well. how long should i wait after a shed to offer food??

i feed mine right after a shed, cuz usaully they refuse to eat while in shed and they end up having not eaten in like 10-14 days.
you'll be suprised how pretty he looks after he sheds. its the best time to take pics of them;)

I believe it is best to keep feeding on the regularly scheduled feed day. Whether or not he/she fed the last scheduled feed day. Offering food on an irregular basis is likely to cause problems. Regularly schuleded feed days should be days you know you will be available to feed & times when your animals have already proven to eat. I feel that it is better to be consistant with feed intervals. Your bp can skip a week, we already know this will be okay. Others with more experience care to reply? I think you guys already told me to stay on regular feeding schedule. ;)

No expert here Dawn, just a newb too really. If you can bring that humidity up to around 70% though during shed it really does help. Things like putting the water dish to the warm side, adding a humid hide, misting if you need to really help during the shedding period to get a nice complete shed.

We offer food the same day per week regardless of shedding cycle. If they wish to eat, they eat....if they refuse, they refuse. They are all healthy snakes that normally eat well so an occasional refusal due to shed doesn't worry me at all. If they refuse, they feed on the next feeding day the following week.

Just what we do though, not what must be done LOL. In the end you need to decide what is best for your snake, based on your own common sense, your research and the collective wisdom of those in this forum.

Same thing here. I offer on the same feeding day regardless, but neither have ever refused, even while in shed. I think Amani and Dillinger would eat rocks, just so they smelled like rat/mouse... Little weirdos :)

i was wondering food offering in proximity to his shed because he just came to my house as a rescue, and i have yet to start a feeding schedule. he refused to eat for the last guy twice. it is almost five weeks since he last fed. i am really anxious to get him eating because he is a baby and that is really too long. he will start to loose weight soon. maybe i will try tommorow and see what he thinks about it. it will have been a whole week since his arrival. does anyone think that is too soon??
