Snake sounds
Are there any sounds beside hissing that Balls make intentionally?
I occasionally hear Lucy make a sound, kind of hard to describe. Sort of like a sigh with a light squeak. I guess between a sigh and a wheeze? It's very quiet. I hear it very rarely and I -think- only when she is moving. So I was wondering if it meant something or if it was just a product of how they locomote.

Some large snakes and large ball pythons have some slightly audible breathing, just from being so big, but otherwise it's abnormal.
Any sighing, wheezing, whistling, squeaking sort of sounds are beginning symptoms of RI (respiratory infection). RI is usually caused by improper husbandry like too low temps and/or poor ventilation in the enclosure.

Well, we were just at the vet today and got a clean bill of health. She made it climbing up on my shoulder in the office. Like I said, I only hear it -very- occasionally. Maybe kind of a breathy tweet?

Re: Snake sounds
When I say rarely I mean 4-5 times in the 5 months we've had her.

Even an exotics vet wouldn't know a snake had beginning symptoms of RI just by looking, unless you brought it in stating the symptoms, or it was already in severe stages of RI (bubbles in the mouth, open mouth, oozing saliva).
Snakes don't make breathy tweets or squeaks unless they are experiencing RI. They are soundless animals. Sorry.
The other possibility is there's something stuck in her nostril that's causing it, either substrate or a piece of shed, so you can check for that.

Is it possible for her to have the beginning symptoms for 5 months? She went through a round of antibiotics in January as well, for tummy problems. I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand.

Re: Snake sounds
I will check her snoot next time she is out and about. It's just so strange to me because she will literally make the noise one time and I won't hear it for another month.

It could just be a heavy sigh. My BP's tend not to make a lot of noise. My larger snakes do, not so much hissing but strong "puffing" of air sometimes, it's a very different sound than a hiss.
Also when one of them goes potty the sounds can be rather impressive. :omg:

That's kind of what it sounds like to me, a big puff of air with a little peep partway through. A hiss without the ss. Haha.
How large is large for a snake? Lucy is about 2.5 kg.

I kept snakes for most of my life, but the best is when my daughters would laugh silly from the farting. Mostly at night when it’s quite and a little after bed time. The whole house ends up laughing. Didn’t mean to get off topic, but yeah it’s some noise.
