I think she trusts me!

Usually when I open the tank for Lucy to come out she'll either go straight for the floor or come to sniff me but then pull away. Today she went right for me and draped her neck over my shoulder! Ahh, I feel like the happiest mommy alive.

Each snake has it's own personality. I don't think that snakes are capable of understanding who we are in regards to their care giver or owner, but I do believe they enjoy our body heat as well as learn that we aren't a threat to them. Then curiosity lets them be bold at times. I have a horned viper that always trys to come up to me, and if he wasn't able to put me in the hospital then I would let him come to me.

I know snakes aren't exactly sentimental or affectionate creatures. I'm just happy that she seems to feel safe around me now.

I'm glad that you're having positive interactions as well. I was just stating that in general though. It would be awesome if they were affectionate though.

I do believe they develop a trust with certain people. Sentimental attachment? No. Trust? Yes.

I've heard enough stories and read enough, combined with my personal experience, to believe this to be true.

Well now I can't help but feel like the most special human on the planet.

We took Lucy to the get for a checkup before we move and they took her back for an enema. [emoji51] When they brought her back she slithered right over the heating pad they provided and up to my shoulder.

after longterm cohabitation, snakes can sense who we are as caregivers. I have had snakes that would hang out super relaxed, climbing on me, near me, around me..., slither up onto my arm when i open the enclosure.
Then as soon as a stranger was in the room, they would freeze and try to get away and hide.
Also had a snake that i rehomed, and when the gentle lady came to get her, the snake kept trying to get onto my arms and wanted nothing to do with the strange, unknown human in the room.

They dont show affection, but they recognize people and animals that they are exposed to longterm, and develop a trusting comfort after learning that that particular animal/human is not a threat.
They are not stupid.
