Is this scale rot?? My humidity isn't high.
Last week I was handling my ball python when I noticed that she had some brown-ish scales. I googled it and scale rot came up. I started reading the causes and symptoms but my bp's cage is always very low in humidity. I live in northern Mexico, which means humidity is EXTREMELY low. To bump it up I normally just spray her tank like 2-3 times a day whenever she is in shed. But she has NEVER shed correctly with me. So I guess that humidity is not something that's very present on her tank. I`m scared to bump her humidity up because if it is actually scale rot I might actually be doing more damage. I've also noticed this very thin brownish line on her belly that starts from the middle down. I'm starting to think it's just some scale damage since I had this branch with very sharp edges (which I already took from her enclosure). She used to climb it and fall several times, I read this is normal. But I guessed she might just be damaging her scales. Also, those brownish scales are only on the top of her body. (I'll try to include pictures). I guess she is only about six months old. I keep her in a 10galon tank with a screen top that i just covered half of it because she is in shed right now. I'll wait and see if there are some changes after her shed. I'm very worried because I don't really know what i did wrong. Her hotspot is about 88 most of the time and her cold spot is in the 80's. I don't think temps are a problem because she digests her food correctly and she doesn't seem stressed at all.
-Omg now that I'm uploading the pictures it looks like I don't care for her. TRUST me I love her so :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:ing much.
shes in shed right now.

Re: Is this scale rot?? My humidity isn't high.
i'm far from an expert, but a secluded section of dirty scales doesn't scream "scale rot" to me.
do they feel different from normal scales? any recent changes you can think of? substrate change?
don't panic just yet as this seems like an isolated issue. keep a sharp eye on it tho.
EDIT: looking over the photos again there are other patches of brown scales. scale rot happens not just from wet/humid conditions, but filthy ones as well. does this sound like your husbandry?

They don't feel kind of dry but there's not an extremely difference or rash.
I'll try to change her substrate this week since there is only one person in all northern Mexico that sells stuff for reptiles and I`ll have to order it online.
Yeah I've seen those brown scales but that looks like it's more from her pattern because she used to have it all over her belly and shed after shed it starts to clear up some spaces. thxxxxx :)

Just curious, what substrate do you use? Do you have a hygrometer?

I keep her on peatmoss which holds humidity really good but my area is really really dry so I guess thats a problem. I don't have one. I used to but she started climbing it and then I started seeing the glue sticking out and I got nervous but it usually was at 40%

She has patches which makes me think its not a burn. Also I have no thermal rocks or anything that could burn her

Yeah, you're going to need one. I'd get a digital one over those crummy stick on analogue ones.

Guys I came home to see a perfect shed!!!!!Well kind pf because her head still has some shed, but other than that I think covering the top worked?! I haven't been able to see if she shed those scales or if they're still there. I'll update you whenever I see her belly. Thanks to everyone!!!

I think I will because just guessing sucks tbh.
