    Light all the time
So yesterday I splurged and bought a spotted python. I just got my ball but I wanted one or two of these and an angolan sometime in the future and couldn't pass up the opportunity to get her. Anyway, the person I bought her from leaves an incadesent(I couldn't have spelled that right) light on 24/7. It keeps the temperature stable and all but I am worried about the bright light affecting her. She's 4 1/2 years old so she's used to it but should I do this too? What about just putting a red light all the time instead of the white because she will get indirect light during the day anyway. Do you think this will be beneficial to her or the opposite since she's lived this way for so long?

As soon as I figure out how I'll post a pic of her in the thread.

I would think a bright light 24/7 would stress out a snake. I don't see any reason that a red light would be detrimental... she might like it better.

Wow, I dunno what kind of light she has on her but if it is a bright white light then get it off of her for sure. A red or blue light (real, not the cheap painted over pieces of junk) is fine but ya gotta get that bright white light off of her.

This is the last time I will try to upload the pic. This is a pic the original owner gave me. She's beautiful and has really bright irredecents. If it doesn't work you can see her in the gallery.

i use red, and blue lights. the white light 24/7 will stress a snake out. you could also just get some flexwatt or a UTH

You could also consider using a ceramic bulb for overhead heat, instead of a light. They run like $30 a bulb, but last a very long time and provide heat without the stressful lights.

Thanks for your replies. I think I will just use a red light seeing as I already have one that I'm not using. Her tank is small and the light fixture is hooked to a dimmer switch so an UTH isn't really necessary IMO. I was just thinking that constant bright light was a bad idea.

    Good deal.

I would say any source of constant bright whether bright or not would be a bad idea.
What kind of red light do you have?

it's one from the pet store w/ red phosphorus. I don't think it's just a painted bulb or anything, it says it's invisible to reptiles.
