Can anyone help a dummy out?
I see it all over the place in people's sig's and also on some breeder sites with photos of newly hatched clutches. Can anyone explain what all the 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 1.2 means with respect to genetics? Please try to explain it as if you were speaking to a 3yr old. Crayon drawings and stick figures are also very helpful. :)

    1.0 One male
    0.1 One female
    0.0.1 One unknown sex
0.2 Would be two females and so on :)
Its a question that asked very often so no worries!

    How about this one:

    0.0.0.0.100

I'm expecting 100 eggs this year LOLOL.

The thing that drives me crazy is when I go to a show and they label their snakes as 'Puma'. They should also label them as 'Spark + Yellowbelly', and maybe even 'Ball Python'. The same with 'Super Stripe', etc.. I see so many snakes a new entry level hobbyist could never figure out on his own without asking. Or how about a generic 'BEL' without listing the genes LOL. The male and female thing is very confusing too '0.1'. If I ever sell at a show or online I'll be clearly explaining everything, no secret snake keeper codes LOL.

Oh wow! Thanks to all of you! That was actually easier than I thought. My head was going all over the place like it meant something similar to when you see 66% het etc...

I was getting a charlie horse in my brain and thinking "It's a BP! Why do I need to know Algebra???" LOL

    The 0.1 means 1 female
    2.0 would means two males
    3.5 would mean 3 males 5 females

    Hope that helps

The BEL thing gets me also. If a breeder can not tell me personal info about the beep I am purchasing, not going to happen.

Thanks for asking that question OP. I have been wondering that ever since I joined this forum and kept forgetting to ask someone

No prob. Thanks to whoever moved the thread, since I now know it has nothing to do with genetics, like I had originally thought.
