    Thermostats have my head spinning...
I’m ready to make the plunge and get better thermostats. I don’t want to be worried about some cheap therm cooking a snake! I can’t have that on my head. I’m buying a few nice snakes I have nice enclosures I don’t want to cheap out on therms and Cause myself stress and issues.

Here is my confusion. I’m going to be running three separate pvc enclosures. All three have a RHP and a UTH. 2 will be stacked on one side of the room. The other will most likely be on the other side of the room or possibly on the opposite wall.

I guess I’m worried about having one therm running all 3 tanks because if there is an issue then all 3 tanks go down. But it is more expensive to get say 3 herp 2s....

My other thinking is what if I just went with 6 herp 1s. Even if one failed on the heat mat say. At least the RHP is running.

I really want to do this once and only once. But I’m confused as to what the right move is. I was thinking maybe just a herp 2 for each enclosure or the 6 herp 1s as just said. Any input aside or direction would be great. Thanks !!

i have 2 Herpstat intro+ and one VE 300 (single input); my T8 runs on a Herpstat 2 Redline. it's worth buying the stand-alone (whether 1 or 2 input) thermostats IMO; they can be used for anything and you don't need to sink money you don't need to.

    EDIT: i run a rack on heat tape with a Herpstat Intro+, Corny's 20gal on a Herpstat Intro+, Peach Sun Tea's Q tub on a VE300, and Yellow's RHP and UTH on a Herpstat 2 Redline

Herpstat is the gold standard. I'm going to try a couple of their new ones with 6 ports. Looks awesome.

I had the same issue years ago. I bought like 3 Herpstat 1 and 2 Herpstat 2. Then when the Herpstat 6 came out, i sold off all my Herpstats except for my Herpstat 1 redline and bought 2 Herpstat 6. My advice is get the biggest one you can afford. I never had a problem with even my old Herpstats. If for some reason, something goes funky and you have to send it in, you can just buy a couple jump starts and daisy chain them for a week. I have 3 Jump starts laying around which i use for quarantine tanks anyways.

What’s the main difference between the ez and then the digital. Is it just a nicer display ?

Havent looked myself but i am going to guess the passive safeties and mechanical relay to shut off power in case of a channel or unit failure. I know anything under the Herpstat 1 does NOT have the mechanical relay.

And the main reason to buy a t-stat is for the safeties and to have it shut down in the off position on failure and not run wide open lol.

the EZ has the main safety relay that shuts the system off if it fails internally. it just doesn't have the internal memory if it turns off or power outage detection. or the backlit LCD screen and the ability to manually input an exact temp.

EDIT: the Intro+ (which is "under" the Herpstat 1) also has the internal safety relay.

EDIT 2: here is the main difference between the EZ and the Intro+; this is what the Intro+ has

Built in Safety Relay on Herpstat Intro+ models to help protect against solid state failures causing "run away" heating.

Ah, they changed them then. The older models from years ago didnt have the mechanical relay except for models from Herpstat 1 and on. Looks like they all got it now.

But isn’t the ez just a crank dial. So if it’s set at 90 and power fails then it comes back it still sits at 90.

So the ez will shut down of too hot ?

The difference between 3 herp 2 or a herp 4 and herp 2 is only like $30. I’m tempted to go 3 herp 2.

But the savings in the ez2 and the herp 2 is $55 a pop or $165. Big jump.

I dont really care care about the digital stuff. As long as it will run my RHP properly and UTH. And not cook anything I’m good
