Temperature not enough. Is it OK to stick the thermostat probe inside the tub?
Hi guys! I just move my ball pythons into tubs, but the inside hot spot can not reach 90F-94F, only around 89F. Currently I insert the probe between the tub outside bottom and the heatmat. Since the range of my thermostat is 108F and when the probe reach 108F, the hot spot above the bedding inside the tub is only round 89F. So I wonder can I put the probe inside? Can I stick it to the inside bottom of the tub using foil tape then with bedding on that? So I think the hot spot can reach above 90F even the probe is only around 95F instead of go beyond its highest range outside the tub. Would there be any potential problems? So from above to the bottom will be: snake->coconut bedding->foil tape->probe->inside bottom of tub->outside bottom of tub->heat mat->books->carpet floor. Would this sequence be OK? Thank you so much!

NO TAPE. IN TUBS. OR ANYWHERE NEAR A SNAKE. FOREVER AND EVER. :)

the probe is fine. 89° F is fine. my rack hangs right around 88-89° F and everyone is well.

EDIT: this is why we don't use tape (graphic).

Thank you so much!!:) Oh and may I know why we should not put foil tape in tubs or near a snake? Is it toxic or something?

i just reread your post again: you should be measuring the inside bottom of the tub, not the top of the substrate. what is the temp of the bottom of the tub over the UTH?

Oh thank you so much! I'll measure the bottom of the tub when I'm home today. I think it should be 90F+. Oh so I should make the bottom of the tub to be around 90F not the top of the substrate? Should it be the inside bottom of the tub or outside bottom(covered by heat mat) of the tub? I just use temp gun scan the top of the substrate and it's 89F. May I know what the temperature of the top of the substrate and the inside /outside bottom of the tub should be? Thank you so much!!!

now you've got it! that's exactly correct. and the bottom of the tub should be reading around 89° F. :)

Thank you so much!:) So the bottom of the tub means the inside bottom right? Then the above substrate should be lower than 89F like 85F+ right?
