Bird and Snake Compatibility?
This is probably a stupid question, but I wanna be sure just in case.
Would it be safe to house a pet bird and reptile in the same room? Obv they would never have a chance to interact/be out at the same time, and I'd be in the room at all times.
I'd be mostly concerned about either of them causing distress to the others. I think very few animals are comfortable with snakes in general, and I'm not sure if the smells or smth would bother the reptiles.
(I don't own a bird, and if I ever did it probably wouldn't be for a very long time, but I like to be prepared ahead of time for these things :P)
Re: Bird and Snake Compatibility?
Ball pythons do eat young African Greys in the wild. That being said, as long as caging is properly escape-proof, it should be fine. The wildlife center I volunteer at has their permanent resident snakes right by permanent resident birds and neither the snake nor the birds have ever seemed concerned about it. With particularly dusty parrots, I would maybe consider whether the dust would be an irritant to the snake's lungs.
Re: Bird and Snake Compatibility?
Alright, thanks everyone :) If I did get a bird I'd make sure neither animal had a chance at escaping/getting at each other.
