    temping/humid guaging ideas
    hey guys!

i just recently got a gorgeous little Banana and i'm having some trouble keeping the temps and humidity. he's currently in a 10 gallon tank, cypress bedding with 2 UThs (1-5gal). with just those, the temp doesn't quite get high enough and the humidity is then too high. when i use a infrared heat lamp, i can get the levels to even out, but he seems to dislike the light the bulb gives off. i've ordered a ceramic bulb which doesn't emit light to see if he prefers that.
my next thought it get a timer for the light to come on and off to keep his levels happy.

    thoughts? opinions? thanks!

That would be what I suggest and may end up doing myself.

Everyone will ask and rightfully so how you are measuring all your readings and if you are using a thermostat so I’ll be the first lol.

Yoj can cover a portion of the screen top as well to see if that helps in anyway.

Red light or white light? BP don't need a bright light and red usually does not bother them. Uth will not heat up the ambient temp. It is only for belly heat.

I recommend CHE for BP's. The less light the better for them, at night especially.

CHE will raise the ambient temp well and you can still use UTH for belly heat.

As mentioned, make sure you are getting accurate temp readings by using a temp gun.

Also, all heating devices/heat sources, must be regulated and controlled by thermostat.

Humidity is tough in a glass tank. I'll let others chime in on that more as I hated glass tanks for that reason (and also ease in temp control and temp gradient is easier in an enclosed tank as well).

When you upgrade as your BP gets bigger, I would greatly consider an enclosed PVC tank.

I have Boaphile tanks and love them. Many people here like Animal Plastics (AP) as well. You can read up in the caging forum, or feel free to ask for advice.

Near impossible to keep temps and humidity under control in a 10 gallon glass tank. If you want a smaller enclosure for a young ball python get a tub or get a larger tank that is better to control.

    Thank you!
Thanks everyone! I got my CHE for the little guy today and I'm starting to research the thermostats!
