Hey guys! I saw a Irian Jaya x Tiger Jag carpet for sale on Craigslist for $200 obo. Is this a good price or should I try to see if they would go lower? I am not sure if I'd like to buy yet. The seller was very quick to awnser questions and the snake is currently on pinkies(Wether its rats or mice I forgot to ask)

Craigslist is a gamble if you are going to get a healthy pet or not. Personally I would avoid it and you run the risk of getting a sick or infected snake and no means of returning it if so. Caveat Emptor.

I've picked up a lot of really nice snakes on Craig's List. Just be sure to check for mites and watch for RI infections. A really bad shed isn't a deal breaker for me. That's a nice looking snake!

$200 seems to be the standard for a lot of carpet python transactions, but if that is a good price it depends on your intentions: For breeding purposes (if I'm being honest) that snake is kind of a mutt and the price is too high. Carpet python breeders and buyers like pure, well-documented bloodlines because new bloodlines are practically non-existent.

IJ, Tiger, and Jag....you're kind of tossing too many (undocumented) genetics into the mix in my opinion. It's the opposite of BP's for desirability of complex morphs because you can't import directly from Australia. Carpet morphs are no where near as plentiful, therefore mixing is not usually a good thing for breeding purposes.....UNLESS you produce STUNNING animals with the combination. Like a PURE lemon yellow IJ/JAG.....and even so, you better be documenting genetics if you want to sell the offspring for good money.

If you don't intend on ever breeding, then I would try to negotiate a little and go for it. Great pets regardless!

Another thing.....on carpet transactions, always ask for pictures of the sire (dad) and dam (mom). Colors are not always guaranteed however.

For a mutt like that I think that's a bit too much, for a little more you could pick yourself up a nice Palmerston Jungle from Nick Mutton.

    What's the lineage?

    What are the percentages?

    What are YOUR goals?

If you are looking for a pet and like it and like the price then why not.

If you are looking as a future breeder I would recommend against it.

I've never bought from craigslist, but would be open to checking an animal out. As long as the snake was healthy as far as I could tell I'd consider it.

I would definitely be strict about quarantine though.
