Banana Man developing spots or mites?
Hey all!
My banana man is about 6 months old and has a few black spots on him that won't rub off. They came on pretty suddenly so, I'm wondering if they are mites?

Nothing to worry about... bananas tend to "spot-up" as they age. Do a quick google search of adult banana ball python and you'll see what I mean. He most likely will develop more as he ages.

I was thinking the same, but have no experience with Banana BP's.
My BCI has freckles too. I think it's cute and adds character. Some people like them, others like a "cleaner" snake. It's preference.
I agree that is probably what it is.

How do you know your snake has mites? Do they burrow under the scales? If so, how do you get them out? I thought maybe.. if they are mites... that they would be under his scales.

Generally, the snake would be spending most of it's time in a water bowl. If the water bowl is white you would likely see mites in it.
Also, you can switch to paper substrate (white non-printed newspaper, for example). You would often see them on that as well. The mites are black, I believe.
I would not treat for mites preemptively. I have read many threads on here where people with more experience and more experience on mites say to only treat if/when necessary.
This is all I can offer on the subject having never experienced them or had to treat for them.

I have two Bananas 240g and a 600g the baby has like two spots the other has progressively gotten more over the months and faded in color as well. It just happens lol that’s why they’re called Bananas lol [emoji23]

Snakes that have mites tend to soak themselves in an effort to relieve the discomfort. Mites may sit under the scales, you would usually see them crawling around on the snake as well. They also seem to like hanging around on the head, near the eyes and on the underside of the jaw. If you google image search snake mites, you'll see a few photos of people holding their snake with mites and notice that the mites also appear on the person's hands/fingers. They look like tiny black pebbles.
