Best Herping Weekend Ever!!!!

this weekend we went to our 22 acres and there is a lake down there. i walked around the lake and this saturday i caught/found: 10 plus fence lizzards, two 4 lined skinks, 15 plus frogs, and 7 plus bull frogs:D . on the way there i saw a dead gopher snake though:(. today i caught/found 1 mountain patchnose snake(that bit me 3 times), another 10 plus fence lizzards, another four lined skink, and another whole bunch of frogs/bull frogs:D . but on the way down to the lake i saw a dieing mojave rattlesnake:(. it was a good weekend in all but on the first day the chain on the motorcycle i was riding and had to walk around a mile before my dad picked me up:D. i ended up having to ride my moms motorcycle the rest of the weekend!

fence lizards ROCK!! I am keeping two as pets right now....they are entertaining :)

Sounds like you had a fun herping trip....wish I was their to have some fun herp...that is one of my favorite things to do :)

i have some pics of the fence lizzards, but nothin else didnt have my camera on me when i caught the patchnose:( oh well, i gotta tell you guys those 3 four lined skinks i saw were amazing! one actually slipped out of my hand i hid in the tip of my shoe,:O that was fun:P

We don't have much in the way of wild herps around here.

common snapping turtles, painted turtles, bullfrogs, toads, leopard frogs, tree frogs, salamanders, and the occasional musking garter.

thers herps all over are property, i guess im just lucky!

yep you are :) For some reason, all I find are cottonmouths and copperheads when I go herping(mostly walking through the wood on hunting trips) .....So now I am a paranoid herper...ha

lol! it really bummed me out when i saw that dieing mojave that had got run over:( the people up there kill the rattlesnakes on site when they see'em:(

We have tons of critters in the forest here in northern Michigan but sadly not one single snake or lizard that we've ever seen. My hubby Mike tho did save a lovely Painted Turtle the other day when we were driving over to WalMart. Poor thing was trying to cross from one roadside wetland area to the other and it's such a busy road! I nearly had heart failure tho when he stood on the brakes and yelled TURTLE!!!! LMAO My hero!

Wow, sounds cool! I really wish I could find some lizards around here, but I think they are more southeast in NY.
We have a bunch of wild herps around here; it musta been a good year for toads, because toadlets are hopping all over the place in the evenings. I saw a few huge garter snakes when we were remodeling the barn a few weeks ago; the one looked like she had just eaten a banana, she was so fat. I found a few three lined salamanders under some rocks by the creek, and a bunch of spotted sal larvae, though I never see adult spotteds. I wish for the day that I will actually see a gray treefrog; I hear them all the time in spring but can never find.

ya know out of all the herps i saw i would have to say the four lined skinks were the most beautiful lizzard i have ever seen! we also have gilberts skinks up there but there kind of dull looking except when there juviniles.
