Aftermarket Locks for an AP T8
So, I'm about to get a lightl used AP T8 cage. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the lock option included, which I would much prefer.

Does anyone know of any "aftermarket" locks that work or you would recommend with the T8?
I've heard that most of these types of locks won't work due to the center support, although I'm not sure how true that is.

Anyone have any feedback on lock options for this?

Take a piece of wire and bend in the shape of a backwards 'S'. Cheap and will work. Or you can use these. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Prime-Li...9949/100197661

That's the kind of lock I was thinking about getting until I saw a post somewhere on here that said it didn't work because of the center pillar.

I suppose I can just buy one and return it if it doesn't work. :D

    Thanks!

Ive seen them on enclosures. I have been thinking of grabbing one at Lowe's. There is a gap between the glass & pillar so it should fit fine but im going to remove the screw and try silicone to keep it in place. I want that screw sticking out or against the glass.

I was just browsing the locks like those, and came across these: https://www.amazon.com/TDK-TDK-7-Sti...ct_top?ie=UTF8
I saw a PVC cage manufacturer at a local expo using ones that looked identical to these, and there's even a picture review someone posted using it on snake caging.

If the 3M adhesive to hold it on works well (or just silicone it in place), then this is probably the more aesthetically pleasing lock than the other one.

If you contact AP, they might be able to just sell you one of the locks they use. The glass would have to be taken to a place that can cut it for the lock holes, but that shouldn't be too hard to do. I'm curious about the one you posted though. That one looks interesting.

They work just fine on the vision cages with sliding doors. I haven't tried it personally, but as far as I can tell based on my AP cage's doors, the sliding lock would work just fine. Of course that's assuming you are getting one with the sliding glass doors

Yeah, it has the sliding glass doors.

I'm not familiar with any glass shops that could do the drilling, and I'm not sure if the cages without the lock done by AP have the hole drilled into the center pillar of the PVC, so I might need to figure out how to do that too.
Mostly I'm just looking for a way to install some sort of lock for my peace of mind and for safety if any kids came over to visit. I'm not looking to spend as much money as I would guess installing the standard AP lock would cost (cost of the lock, drilling glass, and possibly the PVC).

I think I'll order one of the ones that has the 3M stick-on like the Amazon link I posted above (I'll probably just silicone it to the glass instead of using the stick-on it comes with; I have aquariums and silicone wouldn't even be too hard to remove if I wanted to replace it later). Several reviews on the one that tightens down with a small screw mention that they have it come loose and fall or that it never quite tightens down enough to stay in place.
