Are these hides too big for an adult male ball python?
I'm talking about the large size and I've got him a 30 gallon aquarium for reference.

He's definitely not popping out of the large, but he does stick out sometimes if he's not in a tight coil. Anyone have an opinion if it's really worth replacing the large with the medium?

That tank wont have any room with the 2 Lrg. I went to Lrg after 1000 grams because she was to fat for the door of the Medium. She kept dragging it all over.
On another note that Price on Amazon is crazy. I go to RBI and when RBI is out of stock (like today when i went to order) I go to LLL Reptile who Sells RBI. They're stock was fine.
$6.99 each and $7.99 flat shipping or free with orders over $100.
Thats still just about 1/2 the cost i just saw on the Amazon link.

Well I already own them so price isn't a concern. It's a little inconvenient because the doors face the wall instead of the center of the tank, but the snake can still get in and out of them. I've been on the lookout for a 40 breeder tank to upgrade to so there's a little more room, especially when I toss a rat in there.

Not sure where you live but Pets Supplies Plus had 40 gal breeders for $1 a gallon this week. Usually over by Sat not Sunday.. And yes i know what you mean about having to turn the hide.. I did that too in a 33 long quarantine tank, it was a pain & confused the snake too.

Sorry if I'm hijacking but I'm wondering, would an adult male ball python ever get big enough to use a large RBI/Pangea hide? I was looking at the same hides and trying to figure out if when my little guy is fully grown, if a medium will be good with him for life or if I should consider a large. I'm doing a lot of custom stuff so I'm trying to figure out what dimensions I need to factor in for my designs.

How snug does your male fit in the medium? If he gained a few grams would he pop out or he still has a little wiggle room? I'm going to take a wild guess and assume it's good ol Yellow you're talking about :P How old was he again?

yes, Yellow. [emoji3] Yellow has plenty of room to grow in mediums; at least 300g before i'd think he's too big. a large adult male could maybe fill the large at 1500+ grams. these animals fit into surprisingly small spaces.

i have 3 large RBI hides i'd gladly send you if you think a medium is too big. [emoji14]

Mostly the doors are the problem. Male or not a full grown male thats 1500-2000 grams at 3.5-4' will not fit into the medium door. Zina's male is 5'. My female 1.5 years old and 1580 grams at 4' is almost against the sides of the Large door. The hide itself is more than enough so i think I'm going to try and cut/melt the doorway because a XL hide is ridiculously BIG. I have those and use them to keep cleaning supplies in.
