Worm question

Hi y'all. First I'd like to thank everyone involved here as this has proven to be a massive resource to this first time snake owner. I went to the local reptile show in November and purchased my enclosure. After a month of getting everything "just right" I went again and bought Pi. He's is a 6 month old BP. I've had some husbandry issues and a bad bout with mites. However, the information provided on this forum have helped and have allowed me to continue lurking. Now to my question which I can find no info on. Last night Pi ate like normal. However, he literally squeezed the **** out of the thawed mouse. A worm popped out as well. Cause for concern?

A thawed mouse- so was frozen previous. This should have killed any live parasites. I'm willing to bet a good portion of rat/mice have some worms. I'm also willing to bet that in the wild they encounter even more and have some genetic resistance. Same as humans. I wouldn't stress on it but pay attention for any signs never hurts. Especially after a mite issue.

You sure it was a worm and not organs? If it was a worm then the source your are getting your rodents from is substandard. I would change sources and choose a more reputable feeder source. Thankfully a completely frozen rodent should not have any adult parasites or ovum left alive.

That's basically what I was thinking. Boy what a difference between aspen and paper towels (because of mites). Now I can see everything. Not that I wanted to see that but..........😉

Pretty sure it was a worm. It looked identical to a worm that came out of a kitten I owned decades ago. Like a fat piece of rice. The amount of rodents I watched these guys sell made me believe they were reputable. I'll just have to a bit more research before buying again. Pi is ready for the next size up anyway. This was a hopper. I underestimated his size when I bought him because he was so small in my hand. I got home and was shocked when he got comfortable and" stretched" out.

A fat piece of rice? My first thought would be tapeworm. I would see them in rodents, cats, and dogs at the vet office from time to time. The rice pieces are segments from the worm. The segments get pooped out and occasionally they are still moving on the table, eww :puke:. Keep an eye on your pet and talk to your vet about your concerns. Only a vet has the power to diagnose an animal with infestations, infections, and so on.
