Cage/Rack Recommendation?

    Cage/Rack Recommendation?
I’m looking to order either a PVC cage or Rack system, but wanted to get some opinions first. I’m between the following:

    A. Animal Plastics T8 (2x4x12) with divider
    B. Reptile Basics 2x3’x12”
    D. Reptile Basics VE-2 Rack (23x16.5x11”)

With the PVC enclosures I am planning on using UTHs I already have and buying a Pro Products RHP. The Rack comes with UTH, but I’m not sure if ambient temps would be warm enough. Right now I have my house temp set at 72-75F with a space heater in that room to get ambients high enough. Normally temps in my house are set at 65-68F so I’m thinking the ambient temps in the rack setup would be too low with just the UTH. I’m not sure how much we’ll racks hold heat compared with tubs alone. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations? I’d love to add some more BPs down the line so the rack is appealing in that aspect, but don’t want to keep running up my gas bill during winter. I’m also leaning toward RBI vs AP due to the ability to receive it sooner, but like the idea of the AP PVC cage divided to hold 2 BPs, plus AP is slightly cheaper. I’m torn!! Please help. [emoji3]

    Thanks!

The VE-2 tubs are not large enough for adult ball pythons. That are the perfect size for subadults, and you could grow one up in there, but have to move them after they got 3.5' plus. You might be ok cramming a small male adult in there, but you will need a bigger rack tub for an adult female for sure.

You would have to get the CB-70 series for adults.

I don't have experience with the pVC cages.

Okay thanks for the info. This is exactly the kind of guidance I was hoping for [emoji3]. I think I’ll go with one of the PVC cages. Does anyone have advice for AP vs RBI and 2x4 (divided in 2) vs 2x3?

    Thanks!

Depends on what your looking for. Here is my opinion. A T8 divided is not good for displaying 2 adult Ball pythons. Can you use it, of course as some breeders us tubs for adults that size... My snakes are Pets and use all of a 4'L and at least 15" high like a whole T10 size to stretch, periscope and Bask. My 1.5 yr old Female is 46" as of yesterday. Another thing about a T8 is they are a Pain I think to clean with such a low profile. They are a outside diameter of 12 inches high which equals about 11 inches interior with only a 8 inch high door. Think about taking things out and putting them back in and trying to reach 22" deep to wipe down the floor with your arm squeezing through 8 inches with your head up against it hahahha. However several people do this, its just my feelings.
So id ask myself what Im looking for then decide. Theres nothing as sweet looking as a Couple of T10 Displays stacked and your snakes getting to stretch out and utilize the space. Mine come out every night after 8/9pm except after a meal or in shed and I watch them lay under the RHP stretched out, and exploring for hours...

Okay. Great. Thanks so much for the info. I’ve seen a lot of people (on FB groups) saying T8s are way too big for adult BPs, but I wasn’t sure I felt the same way. I’ll definitely look into the T10! Makes sense about cleaning too.

I would second the T-10, or even a T-11. Walking into a room with a nice stack of enclosures is (in my opinion) so much more rewarding that looking at a rack of tubs. You do lose some space, but I don't think you will regret the final result.

Larger enclosures can be trickier to "get right" for some ball python specimens, which is why the advice is generally given for smaller enclosures. This phenomena is generally most common with younger snakes as ball pythons tend to feed more easily as they get older. Many can attest that as long as certain requirements are met, ball pythons do just fine in larger setups. I have heard people claim that ball pythons feed better in naturalistic setups as well but I would note this assertion is anecdotal.

I use the AP T10 for my BP now and she utilizes the entire enclosure, including the shelf and PVC jungle gym I made for her. As a matter of fact I use T10's for all but my carpet python. That being said, I just bought a used (great deal that's why) T8 for my Brazilian rainbow boa as the breeder said they really don't need the extra height and will burrow more than climb....so I'll find out when he's big enough to move out of his tub that I keep in a partitioned T10 for now..

My enclosures......for now...I have to do some rearranging after I get the T8 and the T25 I'm picking up while in Chicago this month.

Spend the extra for a T10. I got both T8s and T10s as well as T25s and if i had to do it all over again, i would skip the T8s and T10s altogether and just get T25s for everyone. But then again, i got mostly boas lol. But you will really appreciate the extra 3 inches of height in a T10 when it comes cleaning time.

    I love my AP cage.
I started by BP in a 40 gal aquarium as a hatching (same floor space as a T8) and he did great with a large amount of hides and clutter, but as soon as I had saved enough up I got the AP T11 and love it. Some will say that that it is too much room for a BP, but I like having the extra space - I have room for 4 hides and a big water bowl as well as rocks and branches.

If you have a female, I'd consider the T25 as it is larger (big females +3000g) will need big hides - so you won't be taking up all the floor space with hides. At least that's what I'd do if I had / when I get a female
