    Heat lamp/UTH/Thermostat Help
    Hello,
I am relatively new to keeping snakes, and very new to ball pythons. My current tank setup is as follows:
    20L glass tank, screen lid.
Red heat bulb w/ dimmer on hot side, keeps warm side around 90F.
UTH w/ Herpestat EZ1 under hot side, hot spot set around at 92F.
    Cool side is ambient 77-80F
Bedding is cedar mulch, i.e Reptile Floor, about 1 inch to combat humidity problems. Humidity is around 55-60%.
Large water dish in center with hot and cool hide and synthetic plants.

Am I missing anything? Do I need a thermostat for the heat lamp? Do I have too much substrate?
I am waiting for my snake to be shipped, so I have some time to correct things before he arrives.
As I understand it, ball pythons are very delicate and need absolute spot on husbandry.. my banana king on the other hand has been a breeze to care for

Any advice or help is appreciated.

    Thanks :)

ALL heat sources must be regulated, including the bulb. i used a dimmer/rheostat for my CHE and it worked great as the room it was in had a steady temp. a thermostat is the superior choice for electronic control, however. if the room the enclosure is in has unstable temps, then i'd use a thermostat.

also, lower the hotspot to ~89-90° F. young beeps do better with a lower hot spot temp.

Will do!!! Thanks for the advice - I will see if the bulb maintains a steady temperature with the dimmer, if not I'll put it on a thermostat :)

Cedar or Cypress? Cedar is toxic.
