Frozen thawed and live mice

Our baby ball python has been on frozen thawed mice. On Wednesday our cat had caught a mouse we live in the country lots of feilds and the kids put it in the snake cage when I found out i couldnt find the mouse so i took the snakes weight it had gained so it ate it. Will this affect his eating habits? I want to continue F/T if possible. Any help appreciated.

I seriously doubt but you need to make sure it doesn't happen again. There is no telling what the mouse had been in or eaten which then went into your snake.

A serious conversation is in order.

Also putting a live rodent in without then watching the snake is a big no no. Google mouse and rat chewed snakes and check out the images.

Yes, it is not the safest method, to feed a wild mouse, but at the same time, I find it funny and cute that your kids chucked the mouse in there and the snake put it to good use! lol.:D Now if the snake gets parasites or something, then it is suddenly not so funny!:(

Definitely have a long chat with the kids. Your snake could have ingested toxins that won't affect him visibly right away. Poisoned or ill rodents are the ones that people can usually catch.

Added to that risk is the risk of parasites that wild rodents commonly are infested with. And the risk of the rodent injuring your snake.

Yes i was worried about that to. The said their uncle dose it . I had to explain the diffrence between a feild mouse and a feeder mouse.

Wild rodents can harbor parasites and at worse poison that can be very detrimental for your snake. Make sure that never happens again for your snake's health.

Yeah, definitely have a talk with them. Unfortunately, it seems they didn't know better and kids will be kids.

The risk is simply too high though. If the snake goes uninjured and eats the mouse, who knows what kind of parasites the mouse may be harboring.
