Help with Stuck shed

So I've had raptor for over a year now and he has shed perfect with full sheds every time, this time round he's shed in tiny patches best part is that he has shed is full head and eye caps so I'm thankfull for that. I bumped his humidity up during shed as usual I'm just slightly gutted it's not gone as well as his past sheds. I know there are many ways to help shedding I.E soaking in lukewarm water or damp towel I'm just wondering what you opinions are on the best way you would do this he has been like this for past 3 days now and I'm thinking it could be uncomfortable for him any suggestions are apreciated many thanks in advance.

i just had to hand-shed my little Pied boy as he only got his head shed off and refused to take off the rest.

i place the snake in a plastic tub filled with warm water (~80-85° F) up to the middle of the snake's body and let the skin soften for about 15 minutes. then i take a rough textured towel and, with gentle pressure, rub the towel over the snake's body as they move inside the towel.

if there's some bits of stuck shed, that's not a huge concern. stuck eyecaps, stuck nose or head shed, or stuck tail tip are the biggest conerns when it comes to stuck shed. if the snake has all of those critical areas cleared, i just ensure the humidity is correct for their next shed so it all comes off.

If the shed surrounds the body or the tail tip where it might cut off circulation it needs to come off. Same with retained eye caps. Outside of that shed should come off on its own if you bump up humidity in the cage. Nothing really is troublesome so long as it is just little patches here and there. Of course if nasal caps are retained it might sound bad like they are wheezing but again, increased humidity should loosen it up.

So again only if it is stuck shed around the entire circumference of the body, tail tip, or eye caps should you really need to intervene. You can soak if you want but it might not be something the snake like. If you do soak make sure the temperature of the water is within a few degrees (like 5 is more than fine, 20 is not) of the surface temp of the snake when you put it in. If you are drastically different it could create a lot of stress and shock.

Short soak or wrap in wet pillowcase then let slither through a wet , rough textured towel -apply very GENTLE pressure..

As described in many threads .. wrap the snake in a wet , rough textured towel and let it slither inside the towel - whilst you apply very GENTLE pressure .

Thanks I will give this a go tomorrow now as I've had him out tonight for 20 mins in a damp warm towel then put some damp moss in his hides for the night that's bumped his humidity up and staying at 70% at the moment so will see how he goes tonight. He's shed his full head and eye caps and about the first inch from his head then about 5 small patches from the side of his body near his belly, the tip of the tail is still stuck shed at the moment might get him bavk out soon to try remove the tail and see if he gets the rest off on his own. I thought I had shedding under control he's always had full sheds, he's Deffo thrown a curve ball on me lol

my little one was definitely a curveball for me, too. i've never had to fully shed a snake.

don't let that shed stay on too long or it can dry out and be even harder to remove. IMO you should get him soaking and you working on him sooner rather than later. use a cotton tipped applicator (or Q-tip :rolleyes:) on the delicate areas like the head and eyes.

if you decide to soak him, be sure to use a tub with a lid so you can close it and allow the humidity to build and soften the skin. and wait that full 15 minutes for them to soak.

There is no need to make duplicate threads.
Sometimes it will take time to get a response.
