Breeding plans for 2021 :)
I have decided that i am going to be picking up a few ball pythons to raise up this next march at the denver repticon. I'm planning on getting a pinstripe-something and a banana-something. I've always loved the look of banana pinstripes and am looking to maybe throw in another gene or two into the mix. What do you guys like in combo to Banana and pinstripe? I am planning on starting to breed in the season of 2021. That should give them three years to mature and grow. Does that seem to be enough time? also, what is optimal breeding weight for ball pythons? Thanks everyone!

Three years to grow them out is much more than most people plan, if you're looking for a 3rd gene to throw in there maybe leopard or Mojave. Jigsaw alone is one of my favorite two gene combos.

Okay, so two years is more common time for it? Also, what are optimal breeding weights for males and females. I had never heard of the jigsaw

Most people do 1,500 to 1,600 grams for females and males at about 700 grams. I like to wait for my males to be at least 900 grams and my females to be 1,800 grams. A jigsaw is a Pinstripe Mojave, add banana to it and it's one nice looking BP.

3 years is plenty of time, usually. Of course it depends on the animal.
It isn't just about weight, though. You can powerfeed a female and have her up to weight in little more then a year. But weight does not equal maturity. Even if you were to get a female up to weight and gravid in record time, common sense dictates that is not a good idea for any species if you plan to keep them long-term and healthy.
My own personal "minimum" is at least 2 years old and at least 1500 grams for females.
At least 2 years old and at least over 1000 gr for males. Now, males can breed much sooner and at a much lighter weight. I just like to let mine grow up a bit.
Its great that you take your time and are willing to wait until your snakes are ready. Patience can be a virtue when breeding animals and I think you will do just great !!!
Pinstripes are GREAT in combos, I had a few hatchlings and adults. Very good choice. I have no Bananas but like quite a few combos with them :)

Thank you, yes i am going to be taking my time for sure. I'm really in love with bananas and pinstripes. I have untill march 10 to get decide what i want to get at Repticon Denver!
