Ambient Question

As the cold weather is creeping in, I'm finding it harder to keep my ambients above 75 degrees. Is it a huge worry if it occasionally drops to 74ish? Most of the times it's hovering around 76-77. The thermostat for the room heater which happens to be wall mounted on the other side of the room is set to 80. I have an RHP on order which will hopefully take care of all my problems once it's delivered and installed. I even thought about buying a small space heater but that might be overkill. He just ate last night so I'm trying to keep these temps up for digestion.

I use the space heater, and it has been a huge boon this winter. The RHP should be sufficient also.

I was checking out your space heater in that picture you posted. Is that relatively safe to leave on??

Yes it is on a thermostat. I have it in 24/7. This one uses infrared quartz and a blower, so I do not aim it at the snake rack! Just let it blow into the room nearby.
An oil filled heater or RHP uses ambient radiant heat, and is more consistent, but my space heater works just fine for ambient room temps.

Yes it is on a thermostat. I have it in 24/7. This one uses infrared quartz and a blower, so I do not aim it at the snake rack! I Just let it blow into the room space.

The main concern is prolonged and drastic temperature shift. An occasional 74 for a few days is not going to do anything. The problem is if you keep letting it slip further and further past that 75 degree agreed upon safe zone. So long as snake has a safe warm hide to escape to then it won't freeze to death ;)

Good info SDA! I've been pretty successful keeping it in the 76-77 zone but it does occasionally slip to 74-75. I was a little uneasy this time around because he just ate last night. I'm really looking forward to that RHP being shipped. I hate having to run the heater at full blast 24/7 :taz:

As SDA said, you'll be fine short term. Once the RHP arrives you should be good to go.

I'm just hoping it's easy to dial in the temps as everyone has mentioned. I've learned so much from everyone here. Truly a great resource!

I've never used them, but intend to when I build my enclosures.
