    Fireworks and stress
It's almost new year, and that means lots and lots of fireworks. I don't know how this goes in the US, but weeks before 31 December all cities in the Netherlands tjrn into war zones and especially the last few days it's explosion after explosion. Preferably as loud as possibly - so loud that it feels like your shaking and your ears hurt, even though the explosion wasn't anywhere near your house.

Now I didn't suspect any problems with my bp as he doesn't have ears, but the past few days I've just noticed something off. He is way more tense and moody than usual, despite not being or being close to going in shed. I can't really explain, it's not like he is active (even less than usual actually), but there is something different. It's like his body language (for so far snakes can have it) is wrong and I can tell because obviously I see him every day. I have decided to not take him out, so I haven't for the past three days to not make him stressed. He is in a very low traffic area, in the attic in my room so the only disturbance he has is me walking by every now and then, but sadly my room doesn't have double windows so you can hear ANYTHING that goes on outside.

Anyway, I made the connection between the loud fireworks 24/7 and his behaviour, could that be it? I mean, the vibrations of the explosions could be stressful for him? Or is it something else

Hello Miss, sounds like things have been going good for you until now.

Here in the United States, our reproduction of war is the week leading up to Independence Day.

I can't say I have ever seen my snakes get moody due to fireworks but what you are describing makes sense. A snake can feel vibration/concusion just like you and I. I believe you have figured out your snakes stress...good job.

Now what to do? If it were my snake, I would try to interact with it. What you have described to me in the past, your snake has a lot of trust in you. Right now, your snake could use your security. It will let you know if it just wants left alone. My guess is it will feel solace once it picks up on your scent knowing it is secure. Happy New Year to you.

Thank you for your response! and also a very happy New year to you!

I just checked on Luciano and to my surprise me was actually out of his hide (something that usually never happens at this time of the day), so I checked his temps first to see if something was wrong but they were fine. So I picked him up and put him in bed with me and he instantly crawled up to my neck and just laid on my chest for a few minutes before going off to explore my bed.
Strange thing is that indeed when I took him out he was relaxed and didn't his behaviour seemed just like usual.

I feel kinda bad for him, as new years eve it just gets so terrible here that often dogs, cats and rodents get send to "animal hotels" out of the city or put on medication to keep them calm, he'll survive though...

Great to hear Miss. I figured Luciano would enjoy your security.:) A lot of times leaving them alone especially the relationship you have with Luciano isn't the best thing to do....you are a great keeper of your snake.

You only have 1 more day of the war games so hang in there.

Try covering the viv with something that'll dampen the vibrations -- like a thick blanket -- til this is past.
