    Burns or blisters?
I just got a female ball python a few months ago, she's been healthy and eating weekly. I had her in a small 20 gallon tank at first, and then moved her to a 70 gallon. We used to have fish in there but I cleaned it out. There was a small leak but we figured it would be fine for a reptile. Anyways, she has this heating pad inside her tank, which I know it should be underneath but it isn't the sticky kind. I figured it would be fine if I put substrate over it, and it was. But she started burrowing under it and I let her, so I think she burned herself because after she shed there were large patches of dry skin on the crest of her back. I have since put the pad at the very bottom underneath the substrate so she can't get underneath. Ive been doing research, but I still wanted to know if I should take her to the vet. For the past two days I've been giving her warm soaks in water with some drops of povodone iodine in it. We've been trying to regulate the temp and humidity, but the humidity won't get past 50 and usually stays around 40-45. We have a small humidifier and it fogs up the tank, but the digital thermometer says it's at like 40. I've been trying to keep my temp up, we have a small heater that I put on top of the tank and the temperature fluxuates between 26-35 celcius. I have to have it set up weird because we don't have a screen top - just a big peice of wood but it covers the top. So, anyway, her skin looks like it does when she's about to shed, but she just did, and pieces of her scales are coming off in a few places. We can't really afford to take her to the vet so I'd rather treat this at home if possible 😞

Dude, you NEED a thermostat. Not an option, every heat source needs to be regulated. They can get under substrate. A Jump Start will do.

A head source must be regulated by a thermostat. One in the enclosure buried under substrate will get hotter since the substrate acts as an insulator, trapping the heat over the pad.

If your snake has blisters it needs to go to the vet ASAP. I took in a rescue BP earlier this year that had been badly burned, sadly even though I got her to the vet within hours of her being given to me she still passed away due to sepsis because her prior owner didn't think her burns were all that bad so he fooled around with home remedies for a few weeks.

    UTH outside UNDER the enclosure......
    UTH regulated by a THERMOSTAT......
Thermostat probe OUTSIDE enclosure on UTH.....
Temperature taken on the hottest surface tour animal can touch, UNDER the substrate.....

    They can and will burrow.
They are not smart enough to not cook themselves.

I do have a thermostat. It's a white digital thermometer hygro. Do I have it in the wrong spot? Should it be under the heating pad? Also I tried uploading pictures and I had to use a URL instead of pictures from my phone so I'm gonna try to upload them somewhere

Also, there's no burns on her stomach or anything, only on her back where the underside of the heating pad would touch her so I'm pretty sure that's the cause. I feel so bad 😞 I cried a little 😭

The thing is, the tank was the previous owners (my dad's cousin) so it's custom built into this wood frame and there's no wood on the underside it's just the bottom glass of the tank

    I think you've confused a thermostat with a thermometer

Also, unplug that heating pad until you can get a proper thermostat

Dude, you can just use electric tape (from your name I think you're indo, electric tape is solatip hitam) and stick it onto the bottom of the tank.

Well... I have one tiny heat pad I got for Christmas but it's not nearly enough to cover the area I need.. I just stuck it under the tank underneath a rock I have propped against the glass. I'm just worried it's not gonna be enough heat if I take it out. I mean, she can't burn herself on it anymore because it's covered. The only reason she got burnt is because I stupidly allowed her to go under it. My dad told me she would move if it hurt but obviously that's not the case... She can't get under it anymore and she doesn't try to
