    Dash Cameras
If you don't have one, get one. They are cheap insurance. Christmas is coming, add it to your wish list. And yes I have one.

This is from last weekend, at 0:07 my buddy was rear-ended and the driver took off. It was the second car to pass him, the white pickup was not involved.

This white Chevy HHR slide into the back of my car in Shelbyville KY on 11-15-2017. License plate "015 XKX". When I stepped out of my car to talk to them they sped off and never stopped. Damage to my vehicle was very minor but as the video shows it was still a good jolt.

At the time I didn't call the police. First I wanted to make sure I got the plate of the vehicle and second I wasn't 100% sure it was that vehicle until I was able to watch the dashcam video. After the impact I looked behind me and couldn't see anything, it was night and raining. Out my side mirror I could see a turn signal and that was it. The truck that rolls past after the impact sat too high and I would have seen their headlights. As the video shows when you hear the other car engine rev the headlights swerve in the road. Plus they took off like a bat out of hell trying to get away.

Or just get a new Corvette Stingray with recordable cameras built in. that way you can have a viral quality video ready after getting pulled over after a high speed chase ;)

edit: Joke aside this is an amazing suggestion and I really need to pick one up.

I wish my checkbook could handle that expense... :P

OTOH even a low-end dash cam is $25-35 on sale. Just get a good memory card for it.

absolutely, and get both front and rear-facing ones if you can.

if you're ever involved in an accident where you are found to be 0% at fault, the insurance company of the person who is at fault can pay for the depreciation of your vehicle. this is called a diminished value claim. it's not an easy process but it's worth knowing about, especially if you have dash cams to easily prove yourself.

(i just learned about this the other day so i wanted to share :))

.....OR.....just drive a car that is such a piece of crap that you don't even care when someone rams into it :D

....but I get your point if you drive anything worth more than a high quality snake rack system.

You can turn off the microphone. Mine is off because I like to sing with the radio but I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

My only problem with dash cams is the new craze on youtube of sending in videos. People will try and actively make an accident to get views on youtube. Of course the few ruin it for the many, I wish I'd had a dash cam when a driver tried to take me off the road by incorrectly zipper merging.

Or when the other driver lies and you end up listed as at fault for someone else's screw-up. Sure you have insurance for liability, but your premiums will still go up if the carrier has to pay out, and if you get cited for causing the accident then that can cost you points, fees you have to pay to the county/state, etc.

I've been using one of these for over three years now, works great! Black Box G1W

Edit: That said, I'd imagine the tech has only improved in the last 3 years so maybe it's time to upgrade. Having one that connects to a phone via bluetooth would be nice as it would take less effort when publicly shaming area drivers on FaceBook. ;)
