    both adults fasting.
Is it normal for both males and females to fast during "breeding season"? I have been trying to breed my adult male to my adult female and the male went on a hunger strike about 5 weeks ago, which I am accustomed too. He does this every year. The female is now refusing meals, and she has never done so, though I haven't had her nearly as long. Do females also sometimes fast during breeding? This is the second adult small rat I am having to throw out and I hate throwing money away. Should I just stop offering them food for awhile? How does it work with females, compered to males with breeding and feeding?

Thanks ahead of time for some answers, you guys and gals here are so awesome!

switch her to a two week schedule untill she starts feeding again. winter fasts (for me at least) are actually more prevalent in females rather than males.

Been doing "offer. refused? wait two weeks. refused? wait another two weeks. refused again? wait a month." with mine. He's been caving before the "wait a month" stage but I'm seeing a lot less hunger activity from him.

Pretty much just been playing it loose and peeking in on him before bed. If I see him out and about a few nights in a row, I assume hungry and offer one to him. That's been working well for us.
