My ball python has a spot on his head, I’m not sure how it happened though. There’s nothing in his tank that would scratch him.

It definitely looks like he's rubbed his head up against something. Check for any sharp or rough edges inside the enclosure - including the enclosure itself. It's amazing where they will explore and what they'll get into when you're not looking.

Yeah, definitely check to make sure the entrance holes to hides are smooth. Sometimes one of my beeps will dart into his hide when I open the tub if I open his tub first, seen him bump his head at the top of the hole, luckily the RBI hides are nice n smooth.

do you have a screen top? They occasionally get holes and the sharp wires can cause scratches. Especially if the snake trys to push against it to try to make it bigger and escape. They're craftier than people think.

Beyond those things, the substrate looks a little chippy. Mighta tried to burrow and did it on one of the chips.

I have the Exoterra 2 door tank the screen top on it is quite soft I did check though I’m thinking it may have been on his hide

The substrate is a temporary kind I got because they were out of what I usually use but he actually got the scratch before I switched the bedding.
