Kalatoa SD Retic

Just got him yesterday from Bob Clark platinum morph.
Would love some feed back on these guys ..

Get out your wallett........ Mines similar size and need food every 4 or 5 days or he will bust up his face of the glass and split open his lip..... Maybe be prepared for some slight cage agression? Mine will tag me if im not carfull when poking around his cage but as soon as he's out of his tank he is fine and wouldn't ever bite someone. By the way, beautiful snake!!! They do grow very very fast, i would suggest starting him off in an adult sized enclosure with hiding spots..... No sense in buy 3 different enclosures over the next couple of years to only have him outgrow them! good luck!

He's in a 28 quart tub right now from there I'll move them to a 41 quart tub and then once he outgrows that my dad build a 6ft buy 28 inch wide by 20 inch tall cage for him...

So with him being a super dwarf his appetite is going to be big? He's feeding on rat pups right now which I'm totally baffled that he's eating a rat pup..

Sound like a good plan, I would think that they would have a similar appetite because sauzo has one that i think is 1/4 dwarf 1/4 sd and 1/2 mainland.... That thing eats like a monster if i can recall correctly......

With retic does the rule of thumb still apply give him a week to acclimate before handling and feeding

I would say so, give him a week to settle in.... then think about feeding and handling!

Being a retic of any size potential his appetite is going to be big. Did you get any other info on the parents? Curious if it's the same snakes that produced my 50% SD Ultra Ivory het Anery. I haven't seen Bob list any platinum/fire SD that weren't at least het Anery as well. I know the parents of mine were 6' Ultra Anery dad, and 11' Platinum/Fire het Anery mom. Both 50% SD I believe.
Mine was a year old when I got him and Bob still had him on rat pups every 7-10 days. I increased prey size to smalls, then medium, and soon to be on large rats all within 8 months. He keeps his small hatchling stock on maintenance feeding schedules from what I can gather in order to keep overhead costs down as well as for the fact that it's easier to sell and ship a small snake than a large one. After I got my boy eating a bit more heavily he's tripled his weight (500grams to 1500grams) and grown over 2' since I got him. I'd suggest hook training/tap training if this is your first time working with retics. Their feeding response is incredible to say the least. Definitely a "bite first, ask questions later" type of response. Purpose is to very gently tap them with a hook alert them to the fact that they aren't being fed whenever you need to handle them or get in their cage in order to turn off their feeding response.
The cage being built should be plenty big to house him comfortably for the rest of his life as well.
Week of settle in time applies to any new animal in your care when first acquired. Is this your first retic/larger constrictor?

I'm not sure on that to be honest I contacted Bob Clark looking for a dwarf or super dwarf retic as a pet with a possibility of a breeding project Bob went through his collection while I was on the phone let me know what he had he was heavy on males and cut me a deal on the Platinum 50% super dwarf from what I remember of the conversation he said that his mail was 10 ft long so I'm assuming that the mail was pure super dwarf in the female was mainland Platinum

I was into reptiles about 10 years ago went through a divorce and got out of them my daughter who is now 10 1/2 loves reptiles I have owned Burmese pythons in the past I've always wanted retic I have two cats that are 16 lb big but still fearful of a mainland getting a hold of them from a costly mistake I or my daughter could make that's why I went with super dwarf ..

I own ball pythons right now..
