    Feeding sizes
Hi there. I just weighed my bp for the first time and he weighed in at 425g. I didn’t think to ask how old he was upon buying him because I wasn’t aware of the importance and was too excited to have my little beep.
That being said, he has been taking small adult rats for 3 weeks now which weigh in roughly at 55g. Is this okay? He eats fine and has never given us a problem but want to make sure he is okay to be taking that size. I have recently been seeing diagrams and charts where this is a bit big of a meal for him and want to make sure that I’m not overfeeding my boy.

    Thanks so much in advance!

That size of rat is perfectly fine.

I would normally be feeding weaned rats at that size, but if he is taking them down without issue then I see no reason to change. Just keep feedings to once every 7-10 days and you should be good.

I buy the f/t rats at a chain store as there aren’t many options around and there isn’t a giant selection. But that being said, he takes them down just fine. He appeared to be getting a bit more round so I started him on the 10 day feeding schedule (as opposed to once a week) the last two weeks. He is doing fine with that also.

I agree with Regius... feeding a small rat isn't until they reach over 500 grams...
